    Realistic mpg for a 90

I swapped my transfer bx for a Disco one on my Td5 90, I did a run to Devon, around Devon and back home to Notts, averaged 35.5 mpg, well pleased with that. It was around 5 mpg better than before I'd swapped it over.

Defender transfer box - low miles

I'd say 55 was more like it. It's not just the weight but the awkwardness of it, I'm booked in at the chiropractor this week!

Defender transfer box - low miles

The drum is from a disco because I swapped mine over, they are slightly deeper than the defender drum, so you may as we'll have that too, then decide which one is better. Let me know how you go on with the courier, cheers

Defender transfer box - low miles

First dibs - no problem. I fetched my tx box, met up at the show in Harrogate. I'd be surprised if your guy couldn't swap it over in a few hours, as long as you can get at the box it's easy enough. I'd never swapped one before either, but as long as you've got a ramp or a pit you'll be ok, see...

    ZU alloy wheels

OK, thanks Lanny, is it these? ... The only reason I'd go for the Mach 5's it because they're an inch wider and 265's will probably seat better on them, if I did I'd have to buy a new set of locking nuts too for another £50

    ZU alloy wheels

What are the nuts like that are supplied with the MaxXtrac Mach 5's? I know that Zu's can be fitted with the nice shiny L/R ones but what are the ones supplied with Mach 5's like? Are they steel nuts that rust? I'm buying either Zu's or Mach 5's this week.

Defender transfer box - low miles

The one I put on was from a 300Tdi, not sure what year but probably 99 ish, runs perfect, it'd done about 90k. I had to swap the speedo sensor and the handbrake cable+cover over, other than that it was dead easy, best mod I've done yet.

As above, taken from my 2006 Td5, recently removed at 25k miles only, this can be verified, no problems with the box at all, I changed it for a discovery 1.2 ratio Serial number 43D129373G £150

Unsprung weight - does it matter much?

Cheers SpringDon, just wondered, I've raced bikes for years, given up now though, never got the chance to get any Dymags or Carbon wheels as I wasn't that good! Just thought I'd ask the question, the difference of 10Kg+ per wheel could potentially make a slight difference.

Unsprung weight - does it matter much?

I've been looking this up and I've been told for every Kg that is removed from the unsprung weight, ie before the springs, then it makes the equivalent of 10x the difference of the sprung weight, so by losing 40KG, it's like losing the weight of 4 people in the car. Maybe I'm just trying to...

Unsprung weight - does it matter much?

Might be a daft question but I've heard people talking about the unsprung weight (mainly on motorbikes) and how much difference it makes to have lighter wheels/tyres. I'm about to change my wheels and tyres, it looks like modulars are at least 10Kg per wheel lighter than an average alloy, so...

    STT's or Duratrac's for a 90?

OK, thanks again, I think I'll stick to the 265's for now, I'm on the SVX type alloys at the moment with 30mm spacers, they look lovely but I've always fancied some Mach 5's or Zu's, I'd be able to sell them no problem, but I guess I'd only be going to the 8" rim for the fact that the tyre don't...

    STT's or Duratrac's for a 90?

Thanks, I've changed my transfer box for a 1.2 disco unit, very pleased with it and how its geared, I'm running 235/85/16's at the moment, I think going to 285's might increase the hearing a bit more, another 3% might make too much difference, I'm not sure though?! I thonk the 1.2 makes about...

    STT's or Duratrac's for a 90?

Yes, they've got a great write up but I'm a tight bugger and they're about £30 more each! Are those Mach 5's? Would you say they 265's fit an 8 inch rim better and don't 'bulge' as much as when fitting to a 7" rim? I'm on std L/R wheels which are 7's and I'm debating wether to get some Mach 5's...
