V8 timing. How much too much

Thanks, I'm running 6 btdc now. I just wasn't sure why it could take so much static advance with no detonation. I guess it may be down to it being low comp. I might be sticking some P6 pistons in it soon so that will soon tell when I crank the advance up again.

    NFU not such good service

Well I called them again this afternoon just to speak to someone new and to get it clear in my head. But It does seem that to get any business with them I need to already have business with them in the form of house insurance or another motor policy. I even told them I wanted to have my policy...

    NFU not such good service

Well my 110 has come up for renewal so I though I would give NFU a try as most people seem to rate them quite well. I called Monday went through the policy details. They gave me a good price so I said I would go ahead. The person I was speaking to on the phone said he would need to run the...

V8 timing. How much too much

Hi all, Got a quick question for those in the know. Ive always timed my 3.5 low comp at 6 degrees btdc. I've ran it at 12btdc before as well with no real difference. Today I decided to see how far I could advance it before it starts pinking then just back it off a tad. Well I got to 28btdc...

    What's your Apollo 13 moment?

I was down in cornwall on a weekend break. Whilst down there one of my hand brake back plates on my Range rover decided to rust through and drop both springs and shoe retainers into the bottom of the drum. That made a hell off a racket scraping round in there. I took the wheel off but I didn't...

    Inner CV joint

Rave sure does make it seem simple. I must admit when I did the other side it was fine. I still have to knock the hub onto the shaft to get the nut started but this side was tight! the end of the drive shaft was about 1/2 inch inside the hub when it got to the stage I had to start hitting the...

    Inner CV joint

Well what a day. A day of woe. Following on from my problems of pressing the drive shaft out of the rear hub to replace a rear wheel bearing, I found someone with a 50ton press which sorted that. Went with a hell of a bang when it started moving. Onto the next problem of pressing the...

Removing rear drive shaft from hub

Well no luck with soaking it. Leaving 10 ton on it over night. Belting the hub and end of the shaft with pressure on it, also heating it. I know someone with a 50 ton press so I'm going to take it over there tomorrow. It will either bust something or come free. It's just the drive shaft I want...

Removing rear drive shaft from hub

... Yeah that second video is pretty much the issue I have. I'm going to give it a soak and give it some more abuse later.

Removing rear drive shaft from hub

Hi all, I'm struggling a bit at the moment and I was wondering if any of you have a solution. I'm replacing my rear hand brake mounting plates on my L322. They had rusted through ejecting both hand brake shoe retainers whilst down in Cornwall on Holiday. Anyways I did the offside fine...

PMs sent. Let me know if you haven't received it. I haven't planned a route yet but I'm sure I can rough something out. Found some new lanes to try. Well I don't think we've done them before anyway?!?

What colour Andy, black or white/blue? Could be pump timing. Valve stem seals. Turbo. Or if you're still unsure of the bores they could be letting a bit of oil by.

Seems strange it won't run at all. Does it try to fire? Defo try and do a compression test. It will help rule out major surgery. If it got really hot there could be an issue with the block. Is the turbo ok? hasn't lost some vanes damaging the piston or valves in the process?

Ah ya beat me to it. How about an engine swap Andy? could always give you a hand with it. I've got engine hoist. We could do it in a day.
