    Axle and hub ID

Yeh I guess the shafts is something I've not accounted for changing. I cannot find part numbers on the items I have and as originally posted, the parts diagram doesn't match what I have. I.e. the stub axle is D shaped rather than a tab, but doesn't have the seal in the back. Hub has the two...

    Axle and hub ID

The stub and hub need replaced - they are pitted. Can I put the new style stub axle (seal on the inside) and hub onto the axle I have? Was there a change in axle flanges where the stub axle bolts on?

    Axle and hub ID

So is the full set up standard for an early disco? What is interchangeable for other parts? Is the axle ‘standard’ across the range and i need to change from stub outward? Is the hub the old style to match the old stub axle?

    Axle and hub ID

I had a G reg 90 that has a rear axle with brake discs, so obviously converted. I’m trying to work out what’s what. The set up For hubs is as per this parts diagram - i.e. part 10 spacer, seal either side of of the hub. The stub axle isn’t like the image - it has the ‘D’ shape rather than the...

    Hub still leaking

Anybody got an idea what could be causing the leak to continue? Looking at parts; From VIN LA930456 axles, Stub axle FTC3188 which corresponds with FTC942 hub and has thin 'washer'. This has the drive shaft attached to the hub cover. The only set up I can see with the FRC8227 'spacer' is that...

    Hub still leaking

Yeh its a axle from slightly later defender i think. Breather is fine, checked it so many times just in case haha.

    Hub still leaking

G reg 90 with disc brakes on rear axle. Rear hub seal was leaking on one side, so I replaced seals, bearings, discs and pads on both sides. 200 miles in and its still leaking, all over my discs. quite sludgy (assume from oil mixing with pad dust?). When I stripped down, I found my thrust...

Central locking & alarm - aftermarket

The kits are pretty generic, so I posted here rather than defender part of the forum. my vintage (1990) of defender has no hint of alarm or central locking so I'm hoping these kits come with everything required. Above central belt Scotland the problem isn't really the same as in England. But...

Central locking & alarm - aftermarket

Yeh you are right. Not as much of an issue north Scotland (touch wood) and I have several other security products already. I want central locking for my convenience and if its not expensive for an additional level of protection (the motion sensor alarm) then I'd like to add that too

Central locking & alarm - aftermarket

Looking to install central locking for my 90. Loads of cheapo aftermarket kits on eBay and amazon, so all good there. I see similar kits that do aftermarket alarms, but Its not clear if these need existing sensors or if the kits come with everything you need. Any ideas? To get two kits seems...

Brake pad life & LOF brakes

I'm away to do my hubs, discs and pads, so I'll have a good check of the callipers when I do that and order up replacement pistons and seals if required...

Brake pad life & LOF brakes

I fitted new callipers discs and pads a year ago to the rear of my 90; Calipers RTC5889 and WM600071L from paddocks pads STC9188M I've only driven about 4k miles, say 5k just on the liberal side, but the pads need replaced. I have also noted that they are wearing uneven - inside face is almost...

    Battery box grommet

Any ideas where I can get one? Or three! I have the YRM battery box, 35mm holes. I called YRM and they dont supply the grommets as, like me, they cant find 35mm grommets anywhere. Standard seems to be 32mm or 38mm. I have the added issue that rather than a single cable, I have several...

    Servos keep failing

@nobber I didn't rebuild the engine, so not done anything to the vacuum pump. The hose from the pump is decently creating a vacuum though (the correct amount, I am not sure) @steve2286w Setting the brake pedal would be with the servo rod, right? In which case it is set correctly, but then as...

    Servos keep failing

Replaced my servo (correct type) and master when i was doing my rebuild. Within first month i had to replace the servo. The brake pedal pressure kept building while driving until the brakes eventually were on. Tried everything - adjusting rod in servo etc. Changed the servo and problem went...

    Servo issues?

I’ve pulled the hose off the servo and there is definitely a vacuum. Looks like the servo then ‍♂️

    Servo issues?

I understand that - i noted that in my OP too. So with foot on pedal, starting the engine, the pedal doesnt move anymore. Is that a case of "servo replace" or could there be somethign else?

    Servo issues?

Yeh i assumed as much for pulling to the side, so hopefully resolved its self. pedal doesnt seem to build pressure, but it is hard. Engine on there is no change. Servo worked fine since new but stopped working overnight which is strange. Any thoughts how i can confirm whats going on?

    Servo issues?

Rebuilt front callipers with new pistons. Bled through the whole system. Car pulled to the right on heavy braking, but was sure there was no air as put loads of fluid through. yesterday I had 3te trailer on and noticed my braking effort was massive to get the car to slow- trailer brakes work...
