    Softback, Hardback or Both...?

Sorry but I sold it about a month ago. Andy.

    2 Wheel drive

I'm the one that commented about switching to 2WD in another thread recently. I think the saving was about 10% and to have the prop shaft removed costed me £20. Personally I feel that the Freebie drives much better in this mode but - I am quite a sedentary driver, definately not one for going...

restoring exterior trim and cigarette smell

I have made the mistake of buying one or two cars that had been smoked in. I'll never do it again. T^hat having been said I was successful in removing the smell after a little while. It isn't pleasant though... 1) A bowl of hot water with dettol in it and a rough cloth. thoroughly clean all of...

    4wd to 2wd conversion

You're right about the Vitara's etc and if I'm honest I probably should have done more research before going ahead and buying one - Although the Freelanders do look a lot better than Vitara's so I probably would still have bought it anyway ;-)

    4wd to 2wd conversion

Absolutely! My understanding is that you need to inform your insurance company of any modifications to the standard vehicle - Not only at the time you purchase it but also if you make changes yourself afterwards. Other examples would include things such as wheels, tyres, EGR, Exhaust - even the...

    4wd to 2wd conversion

If you're referring to me I don't think it's odd at all. I bought mine because I live at the top of a long and winding hill. For the past two years I have been stuck in winter due to snow. I don't need four wheel drive when there isn't snow on the roads (probably nine or more months of the year)...

    4wd to 2wd conversion

Hi, For me (and I'm not at all technical), immediately after the change there were two things that felt different; 1) The Steering felt a lot lighter 2) It felt as if I wasn't having to put my foot down as far on the accelerator pedal in order to maintain any particular speed as I had before...

    4wd to 2wd conversion

I hadn't visited this thread for a while and then I got a notification about vonkprop's post so I decided to have a look. It has been a while since my previous post in the thread and since that time I went ahead and had the prop removed. The local garage who had quoted £40 got it up onto a lift...

    Thanks - I'll give that a try!

    Clunk from rear...

Thanks for your response - Do you know if there's a way that I should be able to tell by having a look underneath?

    Clunk from rear...

Hi all, I have a clunk sound every now and then from the rear. Sometimes (but not often) it'll happen when I am cornering but most commonly it occurs when it is changing down through the gears (auto). I can only describe it as a single "clunk" sound from the centre rear of the freebie. I have...

Hi and thanks for your response. Was it an expensive job do you remember?

Very weird vibration - Machanic says...

Hi, It has done 120k miles. With the front driveshaft joints?? I wouldn't have a clue what they are but the mechanic checked and said that everything was ok so it may be the "internal shafts" inside the gearbox? I'm unsure what to do next to be honest - At least if the machanic had said "xyz...

Very weird vibration - Machanic says...

Hi all, I was hoping that someone may be able to help... Over the past week or so I have been noticing an intermittent vibration that seems to start after I have been driving for around 10 miles or so. It seems to be coming from the front end and is intermittent - sometimes there, other times...

    Hello good weather, goodbye prop!

250 miles so far. The fuel light came on about 5 miles ago so at a guess I'd say I have another 20 or so. This being the case I'll conclude that dropping the prop has lead to a reduction in fuel consumption of around 10%. Andy.

    Hello good weather, goodbye prop!

This is really funny - It's snowing outside now so it could be an interesting day on the roads... Perhaps I'll stay at home as it'd be highly embarrassing to get stuck in the snow in my freelander because I had taken the prop shaft off ;-)

    Hello good weather, goodbye prop!

Thanks for this, I'll test it because having been driving for just a few days now it seems to handle so much smoother that there must be some significant problems with my prop/vcu bits. Andy.

    Hello good weather, goodbye prop!

Hi again, These comments have me thinking... Is it possible to test the VCU with it removed from the vehicle? How "spongy" should the rubber things that connect the brackets to the front and rear of the VCU be? On mine I can easily move them all around by hand without using hardly any force at...

    Hello good weather, goodbye prop!

Thanks for all the comments. Maybe while the prop is off it'll be a good opportunity to get it checked before it goes back on. As for wheel spin and diving into corners I don't think I'll be affected by these as I'm a very sedentary driver (so much so that even elderly Sunday motorists get...

    Hello good weather, goodbye prop!

Hmmm.... I'm now wondering whether there may have been something wrong with my prop because now I'm experiencing the following; 1) Reversing feels a lot more "free and smooth" 2) When going around tight corners it also feels more "free" somehow 3) Steering feels lighter 4) (and this is probably...
