Hi all,

I was hoping that someone may be able to help...

Over the past week or so I have been noticing an intermittent vibration that seems to start after I have been driving for around 10 miles or so. It seems to be coming from the front end and is intermittent - sometimes there, other times not. It can happen at any speed point from around 30mph to 70 mph (I've never driven faster than 70 so I can't say if it goes away above that speed) and once it starts - it continues for the remainder of the journey except that if I'm coasting downhill it seems to disappear before returning once I am using the accelerator again.

I took it to a local mechanic today who checked CV joints, suspension (front and rear), tyres and all came up ok. I had the prop removed a few weeks ago to save fuel so we can rule that out.

After all of these checks, the mechanic (who isn't a Land Rover independent) suggested that it may be the internal driveshafts in the gearbox.

Has anyone had experience of this? If so is it economical to repair or likely to see my freebie take a one way trip to the scrapyard.

Thanks in advance.

You'll be able to get hold of a second hand gbox for about a ton, if it is that.

Do a search on here to see if anybody else has had the same thing.

I had a similar issue but it would go away if i lifted off. I had worn Propshaft joint causing it, but you have removed the prop so it cant be that.

Are the front driveshaft joints all in good condition?
Also what is the mileage of the car?

Hi,
It has done 120k miles. With the front driveshaft joints?? I wouldn't have a clue what they are but the mechanic checked and said that everything was ok so it may be the "internal shafts" inside the gearbox?

I'm unsure what to do next to be honest - At least if the machanic had said "xyz part has gone and it'll cost £xx to fix" I'd be able to work out my next move. My big concern now will be that I'll end up going down a pathway of having someone check various things (for varying sums of cash) and then they'll turn around and tell me that it's something so expensive in parts and labour that I may as well scrap it (That was said to me once before when I owned a Merc A170 and the auto gearbox started playing up).

*Sigh*

I've had a similar problem and it was caused by worn inner cv joint. Had to replace the whole driveshaft.
