Clutch not working. MK 1 petrol 1.8

OKay...... thanks for the info and feedback gents. Here is the update. The AA man came today and had a brief look and suggested a problem within the clutch itself. We went to the garage who called me to say they think I need a replacement clutch. I have a few questions however. Could it be...

If that is the issue, is it a case of a spray of wd40 or heavy duty grease?

Clutch not working. MK 1 petrol 1.8

Thankyou very much for taking the time guys. I'm really no mechanic and haven't ever done a VCU test. My there amigos ave been on for a while.... Would this be a coincidence or a symptom of the problem? I think my next step would be the AA to get a definitive diagnosis and maybe a tow...

Many thanks Nodge. Where is the release lever located and is it something that a complete amateur could tackle? Would you use oil or wd40? Many thanks forge advice. R

Clutch not working. MK 1 petrol 1.8

Thanks for the reply Nodge. To go into more detail, with the engine turned off you can depress the clutch and you can select a gear. BUT if you then start the engine and release the clutch with the gear engaged the gears grind against each other as if you haven't engaged the clutch. If you...

Clutch not working. MK 1 petrol 1.8

Hi Guys, Any help would be most gratefully accepted! Jumped into my Freebie yesterday having not used it for about week. I started the engine and pushed in the clutch and tried to select first gear but the gearstick would not move. It felt solid as if the clutch hadn't been pushed in...

Would this ruin the stater motor or solenoid which is low down on a mk1?

    Starter Repair

My 1.8 petrol won't turn over....AGAIN! When this happened before the AA man spotted that the spade connector had come adrift from the starter and fiddled about and managed to refit it by digging deep into the engine compartment. I've tried to identify where the wire is and what it pushes onto...

What do I tell a mechanic regarding 3 Amigo?

Thanks, I'll try that first. Is the car in permanent 4wd without the three amigos or permanent 2wd? Roodle

What do I tell a mechanic regarding 3 Amigo?

No I haven't, I'm not very practical in this respect! Is it an easy job for a nogging!?? Many thanks for the responses by the way.

What do I tell a mechanic regarding 3 Amigo?

I don't think this has already been covered explicitly, but apologies if I'm duplicating! The three Amigos have raised their ugly collective heads yesterday. Would a run of the mill MOT garage be able to decipher the problem, or is there a simple explanation or list of things to give them to...

    Deep water whine.

Is that belts plural? I'm a bit of a novice. Is it straightforward to check and adjust them? I assume it wouldn't do any damage? Thanks, Roodle

    Deep water whine.

Could anyone reassure me please? Yesterday I went through some of the crazy flooding we have in Oxfordshire at the moment and there was a high pitched whining sound emitted from under the bonnet. It only lasted for a few seconds at a time ad didnt seem to be a problem. Was it just the fan belt...

    Fitting roof rail on facelift

There is a video on you tube which shows how to remove a hard top and roof rails from a three door. Not exactly what you're doing but gives you some useful information. I think I searched under 'Freelander Roof' to find it. I hope this helps.

    New Front Brakes

Does the new calliper come with a new piston? Should I replace the calliper or the piston or both? Thanks for your time, I am a proper amateur! Roo

    New Front Brakes

Right! I changed the pads and disks but one if the piston in the calliper was jammed. Managed to get it back in eventually but having driven the car the pads on one side are binding to the wheel still because the piston is sticking again! How easy ist it to change the calliper or piston or both...
