As much as i love this site, I thought I had finally fixed my problem so I didnt have to come on here everyday searching for answers.. Anyway, 2.5 DSE, auto. Had problems with it overheating under load about a month ago. Found the viscous coupling to be knackered, so decided to overhaul...

Another starting problem to add to the list

Hi guys, cheers for the advice. Well had a day free today so went out and spend £60 on some OEM glow plugs (down from £120). BINGO!! All starting problems totally cured. :D:D:D:D so after all this messing about it was only my crappy glow plugs from ebay, stopped starting properly as soon...

    Genuine Overfinch...or just a badge?

I agree, I think its a fake, I could fit a crappy wood finish and say mines an overfinch. Unless the seller has full proof, with receipts and paperwork, which there would be if it had really been an overfinch vehicle, I wouldnt believe that its real. Also I'd do some quick research, this...

    Help Please! P38 2.5 D

This could either be out that the microswitch units in these two doors have failed, or they need re-syncing to the key (easy) This doesnt always happen anyway, Im sure there are different settings, flashing, one flash, beep, or nothing when you lock it etc, there is a way of changing which...

    Quick question

Right, very short question, when a timed hot fix is fitted to the 2.5 dse, does it make the original glow plug relay redundant, ie its no longer used. So if I have fitted the kit and the original glow plug relay is broken, doesnt work, will the new kit act in its place and heat the plugs, or...

    Arghhhhh!!!!!

Sorry stupid question, How do I check its still there, take the radiator off?Is it inside the radiator?

    Glow plug relay theory

2.5 DSE auto In theory could you replace the timed relay for the glow plugs with a standard relay wired to a switch on the dash? Would this also eliminate the temp sensor for the glow plugs that stop them heating when the engine is hot, or is it on difference circuit? I understand its a...

    Arghhhhh!!!!!

May be, I have tried bleeding it before, and it worked fine all day until I got more than 2 people in. Will flush the whole system when I do thermostat and re-bleed it. Cheers

    Arghhhhh!!!!!

I must post more problems with my crap car than anyone else on this whole forum  Anyway, I thought I had fixed my overheat problem. I stopped the leak, and realised the viscous fan was not performing at its best, and the A/C fans never ever came on no matter how hot the car got, so with...

Another starting problem to add to the list

Yeah its definately drawing air from somewhere, massive air bubble in the fuel pipe. I have put new leak off pipes on, but will go back to my old ones and see if its any different. Once the air problem is gone, I can continue onto figuring out why the glow plugs are not heating.

Another starting problem to add to the list

Haha, the things we go through to keep our lovely range rovers plugging on. Well I will have a go at changing that, hopefully the old girl will be back to full health, Otherwise I will have to admit failure and take it to local landy specialist  Thanks for the advice, will give it a go.

Another starting problem to add to the list

Right so I came to it this morning, its absolutely freezing. Trying heat cycle 5 times again and it did not work, seems like once again it is only trying to start on a few cylinders, which happens every morning first start, but it wont start at all, has flattened my battery. I will have to now...

Another starting problem to add to the list

Right, car has been stood for 2 1/2 hours now since last used, so should have been cold, did a quick test, turned the key to 2nd position to alloy the glow plug light to come on and go out, I did this 5 times before trying to turn the engine over and start it, the car started first thing no...

2.5 DSE auto 1996 Right, I am having serious problems with my car starting. What I have changed/ done to it s far: 1. Changed the in tank pump 2. Changed the leak off pipes between injectors, pipe from injector to pump, and pipe to manifold 3. Fitted a hot start kit 4. Fitted new glow...

P38 Diesel leaky injector cross over pipes

I agree, I bought some silicone rubber tubing from flEbay to do all the leak off pipes and back to the pump, and manifold, they have only been on a month or two but they do feel a bit soft, and seem to have built up a thin layer of rubber (could also be road grime) on the outside that you can...

    17 year old insurance

To be honest it wont matter if you spend a little less on insurance by buying an older 90, because its easier to nick, so you wont have it long enough  In my opinion, its the wrong time of year to buy a defender, they are going to do stupid money when snow hits the ground.:D With out...

    Overheat Update!!

Ok just had a thought, I might be being stupid here, but as I have never looked or worked this low on the engine.... Is the water pump behind the viscous fan? Does the fan and coupling sit on the same shaft and it turns the pump? Just thought Id check as I have no idea and should probably...
