    Range rover starts then dies.

Leaking injector(s) might also cause such phenomena. I'd especially check cold start injector on the side of the plenum. Just disconnect, remove and pressurise the fuel rail (ign on, push AFM flap gently) and observe.

    Starting Problem when hot

Try by-passing the relay that is steered by the over run fuel cut off valve. It's on the AFM pedestal. Just remove the relay and fit a jumper wire between the wires coming from coil -ve and the wire going to the EFI-loom. Should your car work - faulty valve. It is actually there only for slight...

    Classic Success

Different :D Check for the sticky throttle plate/cable. They give sometimes this kind of problems. I had one with my previous truck (1986 EFI with flapper system). Clean the throttle levers, check the adjustment screw (that stops the levers to move, small) and lubricate cable. You might...

    Classic Success

So you got it running almost perfectly - marvelous! Suggestions on the idle: 1. Sticky throttle plate 2. Check for air leaks anywhere around intake area! (Check piping for cracks) 3. Should it be a 3.9 hotwire, I'd recommend that you should clean the stepper motor behind the plenum. 4. Clean...

    Classic Coolant Sensor

PURE OT: How true. Same thing here without the hate and big hammer. I feel only sad when the rig has trouble. This one has not had anything electrical (well the rear windshield wiper broke, mechanically, yet to be fixed) since the first week I bought it and got rid of all the electronic...

Confused......Where did it come from ?

Missed the idea it being a car you were thinking of buying (not a native English speaker) - sorry. I'd be extremely cautious should the car have mayonaise sludge in the oil cap. Dip-stick out as described above. The oil cap off and hand above is a very good idea. Should you have the car for a...

Confused......Where did it come from ?

I know I would - the dip-stick I mean. Should have quoted, since there seems to be a landslide of posts coming in. Even drain the oil to be sure and taking off the rocker covers. The next step would be a exhaust gas test on the coolant. Should these prove positive ---> heads off, taking a...

    Classic Coolant Sensor

About the CTS in general: When starting the car cold the resistance of this sensor should be high - up to 5-10 kOhms (depending on the ambient temp). The car should start when cold with the connector disconnected (resistance infinite) - not when warm though since then the resistance should be...

    More trouble with my Classic

Check the coolant temp sensor resistance with a multimeter. The resistance should be around 7k Ohms or so when cold and 200 Ohms when warm. Or just renew it (fairly cheap). Does she start fine when engine is hot?

RR Classic Cant shift into low box

WD40 or similar on the linkage might help as suggested. Then just try to move the shifter patiently. You do not need to shift the lever right, it will go to low range with the diff lock engaged.

RR Classic Cant shift into low box

Probably just seized, I had the same with my previous RRC (1986 3.5EFI). I got it loose just by trying to move it hard on daily basis. It took a while (a couple of weeks), but eventually the shifter started to move and I got the box into low gears.

    range rover wont start

Ignition leads in correct order? Timing? Water in the fuel? Bad coil? When you crank, does it even promise to start?

    range rover wont start

Are you sure you are getting fuel into cylinders?

What dizzy is needed for my 3.5??

The one behind the easy one. You can measure the resistance between the cts pins when car is cold and hot with a multimeter. Resistance should be around 5-6 kOhms at 0 C and 200 Ohms at 95 C). There should be no thresholds when the sensor warms up i.e. you should get continuous readings...

    Poor running 3.5 V8 EFi

Put in a proper fuel filter for EFI set ups! The carb one won't do the job! Is the fuel pump proper fuel pump for 3.5 EFI? Check these, as well as the fuel pressure. The actual symptoms you describe in the first message of this thread suggest it's starving on fuel (pressure is not high enough...

    Cold start injector!

Obviously you are not getting any fuel. Forget about the cold start injector. It's useless unless you have around -15o centigrade or lower. Needless to say: check all connectors! Possible reason: 1. Fuel pump, fuel pump relay etc. Check: Remove airhose between AFM and Filter. You can see the...
