Thank you very much for the quick response. I'll continue with the rest of the reassembly with a little more confidence.

IRD installation HELP - what's wrong with this picture?

This is not meant to be a photo caption contest, but feel free if so inclined. I'm reinstalling my IRD after having the bearings and seals replaced. Where the IRD slides into the gearbox, there seems to be an extra 1/4" of material that was previously covered by something, as though it used...

Individual cylinders run rough when cold

If anyone has seen this before, please help with your insight. 2001 Freelander 1.8i. Complete rebuilt engine has about 5,000 km (I replaced it in February). Also has new plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor. Ran perfectly for a few months. Around April, it began to have a rough start...

Best place to get a rebuilt 1.8i?

And I'm so content with the Freelander that I think this will be the ending for now. I took a look at the Disco TD5 over the weekend, and unfortunately she's not worth fixing up. Up close, it's not near as pretty. Minor damage all over the exterior, missing rear and side lenses, center...

Best place to get a rebuilt 1.8i?

Thanks! I really hope it's that simple. I'll take a look at that when I pull everything down for the headliner replacement.

Best place to get a rebuilt 1.8i?

Success!!! Though I had expected to have everything done in January, there was a major glitch with the availability of the shop & hoist that I was going to use. Seems the military has a new requirement to x-ray all hoist chains with welds, and our shop's chains were welded, not forged. So...

    Clutch Life on a 1.8

2001 Freelander 1.8i, 140,000km. How long do the clutches typically last, assuming they weren't abused?

Best place to get a rebuilt 1.8i?

£1095 for the reconditioning and £250 for a donor motor (since I'm 99% sure mine is not rebuildable, not even worth the shipping to find out). Another £200 for shipping to Naples. Not sure what the Freelander prices are up in the U.K., but this easily beats what they cost in Naples (comparable...

Best place to get a rebuilt 1.8i?

Yeah, it was truly an opportunistic buy - the seller is planning to move in a few months and doesn't work on vehicles himself, so he just needed to get rid of it. It even took him a few weeks to find a buyer at that price.

Best place to get a rebuilt 1.8i?

I decided to purchase a rebuilt 1.8 Petrol engine through Freelander Specialists. I should have it delivered and installed by late January and I'll post back to let everyone know how it went. I wish I could say I appreciated all of the suggestions, but sadly, well.. you can see for yourself...

Best place to get a rebuilt 1.8i?

No luck so far. Turner Engineering only machines the cylinder heads for the 1.8i, they don't rebuild them. Bearmach only sells 'new' OEM land rover engines, which would undoubtedly be the most expensive way to go. Anyone have any experience with freelanderspecialist.com ?

Best place to get a rebuilt 1.8i?

I like diesels in general, especially my Audi TDI, but I read the LR diesels aren't any better than the Petrols anyway. The cheapest route is clearly to get a rebuilt 1.8i. I'm looking for a simple swap I can do myself. I have free access to a garage with an overhead engine hoist and all...

Best place to get a rebuilt 1.8i?

Hello all, As the title says, I'm looking for a 1.8L Petrol engine, for a 2001 Freelander. I want a properly rebuilt engine with all of the upgrades, crated and shipped to Naples, Italy. Please reply with your recommendations, and thanks in advance! Cheers, John
