    Off Roading ..??

People often talk nonsense about freelanders! But mostly because they know jack! I have many a time rescued a stuck defender or RR! Of course every vehicle has strengths and weaknesses my RR is very good at deep mud and ruts but the freelander is very good at wet mud and loose surfaces and...

    Freelander TD4 Engine Tapping/Ticking sound

If it's got the right oil you will be as fine as you can be, you may need to check the oil pressure to be sure? Which oil did you use? The injectors can make a tick noise, try the 2 stroke in the fuel trick and see if it helps.

    Help with rust

I would agree that there has been a repair there as they dont normally go at that spot. Not to worry, I would do as you say and rub down treat and paint. Make sure to look behind the liner and get some wax in there too

    Gearbox oil cooler

Used one about a year ago and it has been fine, not the best shape and fit but nothing to worry about and it's doing the job just fine. Pipes also fine. Would use again

    Death wobble!?

They never get much better in my experience, I still have them but just got used to the harsh ride. I would be surprised if the fitted the bushes the wrong way round, I seem to recall they are different sizes? Anyway I have experienced what you describe and it was old tyres, balancing helped...

    And so it begins! :(

Down behind the turbo, best seen from underneath of through the drivers wheel arch. It's a little back plastic valve that's electric. It controls when the VNT on the turbo operates by allowing vacuum or not. You may also want to Mach sure that the VNT mech on the turbo is working fully, you...

Anyone bought an AP clutch slave for Td4?

It was outwardly fine but the fluid within had gone off or become contaminated and was full of white 'stuff'. I had no pedal when it was all fitted back together and I had to bleed many times to get back to a good pedal. It's fully possible it was just the one I had but I wouldn't use one...

Anyone bought an AP clutch slave for Td4?

It is an AP in the Brit part box BUT don't use it! The one I had was contaminated and caused no end of problems. I wish I had just used a Brit part one as at least it would have been produced more recently. Both the slave and master should be pre filled.

    Exhaust for oil burner ...

I have a 97 with double rear pipes, appt. this post should pop up as in prep for the MOT I noticed that the Middle box had broken off completely! Oddly the it makes no more noise that before so could have been like that for months. For a laugh u had a quote from kwick fit and the said the...

    Got stuck again !!!!!!!

Guess that it depends on the TC system, but without lockable diffs i honestly don't think you can sniff at TC. I'm sure I read something that you can upgrade to 4 wheel TC if you have rear wheel? Well maybe or maybe not. Or get a freelander as a recovery vehicle ;)

    Replacing shock absorbers (dampers)

Won't make any difference to you how they are to be honest but rave is correct

    Got stuck again !!!!!!!

I have seen this happen a lot with the RR (p38) I have a DSE with no TC and whilst it will do all sort off road with no problems I had to pull it out of a slightly slippy wet field with my freelander on the last trip. It's just that they are heavy and early loose traction to spin the wheels. I...

    TD4 2003 - Front Driveshafts

Same as what? They share a part number with the later v6 but they are not the same side to side, that's for sure. If you do buy get genuine or GKN as others including my self have had problems with copies

What have you done to your Freelander today

Fitted a Bell engineering VCU, second one I have from then, and first replacement for this freeby. Test drive reveals much smoother and less tight vehicle, smiles all round. Need to try it off road this weekend :)
