Where to start on Series 2

Hi Mike I'm rebuilding the gearbox for my SWB at the moment No special tools needed and the parts are very cheap from john Richards surplus For all the parts needed I'm looking around £140 in total Not bad for what will be a recon box

    110 lt77 gearbox replaced with RRC lt77S

James I want to use the defender short bell housing so stripping the RRC gearbox to replace the constant pinion shaft I may as well replace the parts you mention at the same time. Just to clarify is ftc1428 the part needed for a lt77S to be fitted with a defender original 2.5NA lt77 short bell...

    110 lt77 gearbox replaced with RRC lt77S

The price of defender gearbox's I think are very high,I visited Ashcroft and met with Dave Ashcroft but he was very busy and I got the feeling he was not really interested,I guess it's easier to sell recon box's than selling parts to people wanting to fix their own gearbox's.

    110 lt77 gearbox replaced with RRC lt77S

A question for any gearbox experts (James martin), what input shaft do I need to fit a RR lt77s to my 110 which had a 2.5NA with a lt77 gearbox still fitted. It has a weak 2nd gear synchro and also the gear ratio spacing is not good now I've fitted a 300tdi. The replacement gearbox I have is a...

    Canter engine

I don't see why it would be a problem. After all people have been fitting all sorts of engines in to land rovers over the years. Take the example of the mazda 3.5slt engine which was a very popular fitment in to land rovers a few years back. That engine was originally fitted in to a commercial...

    Boost pin

Boost pin is a better way of getting more power than just turning up the fuel screw, which will result in over fueling at lower rev's. I fitted a cheap boost pin and it fitted perfectly.£12 99 ebay special.

let's talk wheels & tyres (non monster truck...)

I can tell you Avon rangemaster tyres are very good on road wet or dry I throw mine around country lanes,as for mud they are as good as any unless you try to compare them to full on mud tyres.

    deep dish steel wheels

Had a bit of luck at the scrap yard last week In a pile of wheels I spotted four 7.50x16 tyres stacked in a neat pile On lifting the top one up to check that they were land rover wheels and what size they really were I was amazed to see the top 3 all with goodyear g90 tyres were green deep dish...

let's talk wheels & tyres (non monster truck...)

I have avon rangemasters and they are fitted with tubes, they are tube type tyre and they have ribs on the inside. These are very old and have been fitted for years with no problems I was surprised as I though tube tyres would be smooth on the inside so not to wear the tubes. Very long lasting...

    Boost pin

£18 buys a hardened steel pin as oppose to the none harden stainless steel pins The grade of stainless steel the boost pins for sale are made from is still harder than the mild steel unhardened pins plus the grades of stainless used to make the pins is still more corrosion resistant than mild...

    Boost pin

At £12.99 I can replace if it does wear lets say after a year or two All boost pins for sale are made from mild steel or stainless I've not see any for sale made out of stainless that is any harder than the pin I bought Mild steel or stainless it's your choice I can say it's a very easy and...

    Engine Conversion in my classic

I think the mazda engine is about 130 hp so not a massive amount so over gearing it will only help on motorways. My engine conversion was done by M&D many years ago. The only way to get more speed with less engine rpm is to fit a transfer box from a early 3 speed auto range rover and that would...

    Engine Conversion in my classic

A tdi is 2.5 and a mazda 35slt is a 3.5 and if a 2.5tdi is going to do 30mpg a 3.5 is not going to be more economical. If you read the reply I made earlier on you would see I own one of these engines in a range rover for over 9 years.
