    I'm Cured (update)

No - I haven't relapsed yet (nor will I), just a bit of background info. For 2 years SWMBO (it's her car) has been saying to me "When are you going to get rid of that thing". She hasn't been driving it - "don't trust it", and yet before it went, "Are you sure you want to sell it?" Then - "...

    P38A I'm cured!

Today, after 8 years, I sold my P38. I escaped once before when I sold the LSE, but relapsed after 3 weeks (after several helpful souls on here warned me I would) when I bought the P38. So after more than 15 years, I no longer suffer from the disease of owning a LR vehicle. This time there will...

    P38 4.6 yr2000 rear bumper mount

This thread may help, see the photo's on post 7. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/p38-rear-bumper-removal.101039/ That Rimmer part is correct but I seem to remember I had to make up a new plate to replace the rusted out bracket off the chassis that this part bolts onto . . . This -...

    P38, feeling smug!

P38, feeling smug! Never, ever dare to put 'smug' and 'P38' in the same sentence, it will come back and bite you on the arse (as I think you're beginning to realise). You have a Land rover product - it will go wrong. Fix it (or get it fixed), chalk it up to experience, then enjoy it till next...

    Just a quick one . . .

Thanks for your thoughts gentlemen, it's definitely a mechanical tick - I've had a stethoscope on it and it's towards the rear of the bank. Not a manifold blow. Just spent the afternoon grovelling under the beast replacing the exhaust, off to soak in a hot bath, it'll probably take a few days...

Gems 4.6. I've got a ticking tappet/follower, (nearside) can you remove the rocker cover without removing the plenum? Ideally need to check what's happening while it's running. TIA

Just bought a second hand tailgate for a classic

Before I sold my LSE (Hi Pete) a couple of years ago I replaced the rusty steel one with ally and had a similar problem, I couldn't see how the hinges fixed to the ally frame. But I took the top rail off and found there was a steel plate about 50 x 12 x 3mm, that sat in a channel in the side...

    p38 4.6 misfire

No - inflexion is a variation of inflection. ;) Inflexion is from middle French/latin, I'm English. Come and join me in pedants' corner :):)

That's not sarcasm - THIS is sarcasm (read this in an Australian accent) "Please try again when you have a thicker skin, you will be sorely missed.;) "

Springs back to bags questions need answering !!!!

" . . . basically anyone who understands electrics are wizards and should be burnt in a public market square while us mortals drink vessels of ale and throw rotten eggs at you !!!!!" Perhaps not the best way to start a thread on EAS as, if your wish comes true, all the people capable of...

P38A White smoke at start.....every start

Hi Nige - I'm also guessing that all isn't well isn't gasketland! Have you done a compression test? That should give you the definitive answer, although mine doesn't show a great deal of difference between cyls, (yes - I still haven't had the time to do mine, it's OK around town, but I'll be...

    Engine immobilised???

Your fuse problems apart, if the battery had flattened while the car was locked, you may be suffering from the 'confused BECM syndrome' that I (and others) have suffered in similar circumstances, where the becm starts speaking French and forgets its mileage and VIN number . . . My thread here:-...

P38A Wheels changed.... For the better?

and you won't get pulled by plod. Our Citroen Picasso (yes, I know, but we need a reliable car) had tints (and not really very dark ones) all round apart from the windscreen when we got it, so professionally done that I thought they were factory fitted. (It doesn't seem to be covered in the MOT...

    Electrical Failure

I've not read the whole thread, and I know you've said the alternator's been checked, but have you checked its charge rate since this happened? If it's stopped charging while the car's been running, the battery will have taken a hammering. but when you switched off, it can have recovered enough...
