    Suspension Worries

Check your transmission isn't winding up. If it is then it will cause all sorts of odd feeling handling, particularly at low speeds. Remove the propshaft & VCU then test it again.

    Cheap T-reg freelander 1.8 worth a punt?

ABS light is supposed to come on with the ignition then only goes off when you reach 5mph (assuming the system self check finds no faults) Knocking is most likely the anti-roll bar at the front or the diff mounts at the rear, mine does it and I keep meaning to sort it out... Do a search on...

    "Here we go again"

Just been Googling, apparently the FL2 has a Haldex unit, don't know how it's operated though, automatic or with manual override?

Can general grabber at2's be fitted the wrong way round?

No they aren't directional so can be fitted either way. The reason the writing is white on one side only is so people can choose to have it on show or not. Directional tyres have either an arrow showing rotation direction or have 'Outer' moulded into the outer sidewall.

    "Here we go again"

Aye true! If I had the time and money I'd look into some sort of electromagnetic lock up & release for a centre vcu. Sort of like a clutch on an air con compressor. Or a haldex unit which works well on my Audi A3, I'm surprised no one has tried to employ either of these onto a Freelander 1...

Do you regret buying a Freelander?

Overall I'm happy with mine, it ****es me off a bit that it now owes me more than it's worth due to things breaking but **** happens I suppose, and I'd have lost a lot more money in depreciation if I'd bought a new un.

    "Here we go again"

I'm an MOT tester and can assure you that it would not fail due to the propshaft not being fitted. I actually run mine without a prop so I checked the wording specifically in the MOT testing guide just to be sure. The thing is, your insurance company should be informed as it is classed as a...

Inlet Manifold - How many gaskets?

Yep, the rubber gasket is for plastic inlet manifolds, the paper one is for metal ones.

    K Series Thermostat Mod

True but you'll only have to do it once! Have a look at your inlet manifold rubber gasket, if it's leaking (a lot of them do) then change it at the same time.... Having the manifold out of the way makes accessing the thermostat much easier. ;)

    K Series Thermostat Mod

Definitely worth doing as it reduces thermal shock on the engine, the old system used to dump a load of relatively cool water into a hot coolant jacket when the thermostat opened. The differing temperatures and therefore different expansion/contraction of the ally in the engine/head causes...

    Driveshaft / IRD Removal

I did my IRD and gearbox replacement on my back on the drive. It isn't all that bad to do to be honest. A couple of tips: Remove the IRD output pinion and rubber damper before you start undoing it from the box, that will make it a fair bit lighter and also smaller so you can drop it out with...

    freelander fans

Have you checked the fans actually work if you manually supply them with power? Have you checked the fuses? It's always best to start at the component that isn't working and work backwards, i.e. fans, fuse, wiring etc... It could be something simple.

    Freelander 2.0 Diesel IRD

Same here, I've left my prop off too. If I havent burned the thing by winter I may get a new VCU. :)

    Freelander 2.0 Diesel IRD

No probs, glad to help. I don't know why they suggest moving the subframe, simply take the rubber damper & output pinion off the IRD, gives you loads more room and saves a fair bit of weight to have to lift up & down. :D

Freelander Design faults, LETS HAVE EM..

It's called a shedder, as it sheds water away from the inside of the car. Sod buying a new one, gaffer tape it! :-) Edit: Not quick enough with my reply, as per usual!

    Freelander 2.0 Diesel IRD

I got mine from www.worldofrover.co.uk they deliver or depending on where you are you could collect to save money, they are in Bolton Lancs. I paid £400 for mine. I stripped it when I got it from them to check what they'd done and it had new bearings etc fitted. I've had no problems with the...

    Rear Window Lift

HANDLE-TAILGATE That's for a complete unit, might be worth giving them a bell to see if they have just the switch (I don't know if it's available seperately, but knowing Landrover it wont be...)

Rear diff mounts knocking but no prop fitted....?

I've got (yet another) knocking from the arse-end of my Freelander, when I was underneath it doing the IRD I noticed the rear diff mounts were a bit baggy but thought it wouldn't matter as I never put the prop back on. Is the diff subject to any major stresses even without the prop? Or is the...

    "Slightly" Modified Slave Bracket

Good idea, I'm gonna try that on mine. My slave cylinder flaps around like a dick in a top hat due to the plastic clip being bollocksed so I reckon your mod will improve my pedal feel no-end. Cheers! Al.

    Rear Window Lift

I was having trouble with my rear window and interior light not operating correctly. I removed the rear door trim to find that it had recently had a new window mechanism fitted but whoever fitted it hadn't secured the wiring loom correctly and the mechanism had worn through the wiring and torn...
