    300tdi, how to replace/bypass PAS

Hi, my PAS has fallen off and is rattling around so I can't fit a serpentine. So no water pump or alternater either. I need a quick fix, and don't really care if I have PAS. Any ideas if I can just bypass the PAS with a shorter serpentine? If so, have a stab at what belt would fit? Or...

Head gasket or loose pulley? 300tdi

Thanks, I wondered if there was something wrong with my theory, but with that back-up I will have another go myself, or get the PAS fixed before worrying about the head ATB Steve

Head gasket or loose pulley? 300tdi

yes, but not buckets. Certainly more than I would expect just for being hot - but I don't know how to judge that! Ok - short answer to a good question - yes!

Head gasket or loose pulley? 300tdi

Thanks to G-man, Thebiglad, and Richard Martin, I now know I have a loose PAS, its wobbling around loose and has destroyed two fan belts. I started this thead, as it might help someone else, too. The landy-man I know had said it had a head gasket problem, but he didn't notice the loose PAS...

help !! what does this bit do ??

Thanks guys, I have been having a go, but it is all a bit tricky with what I have got, and since I am really really in the wilds, getting to Halfords might be just as hard and expensive as getting this ere bloke to do it (I don't even have the bolts to replace!). I think my remaining question...

help !! what does this bit do ??

Thanks, there are some plastic ties on the fan housing thing. If I just cut them off, do I need to jury-rig something (bread ties are my favorite bet) or is there anything I need beyond a 30 year old halfords socket set n' stuff, or anything that isn't obvious (eg things threaded differently etc)?

help !! what does this bit do ??

it gets hot, pretty quickly and with pressure. No mayo in the oil, but the man that knows thinks the only reason it could be this way is that a leak is pressurising but not putting water in the oil. I hope that is a fair representation of what he is saying. I think he means the water is...

I had this great idea, can't think where it came from.. I followed the pipes from the PAS top-up and.... many thanks Dave, and G-man, problem solved.... well, identified at least. When can you pop round and fix it? Really though, I appreciate the help. Here's hoping it wont be too much as...

Don't get me wrong, help appreciated and also that you don't want to say something you cant be bang-on about! Can't help think you have an advantage in not having a tdi to look at, right now. The view is starting to wear on me a bit.

help !! what does this bit do ??

Thanks, I haven't done this before, but if this atachment thing works, you shoud have a diagram.... lets see! Yes that worked, its marked with the red arrow. The diagram I pulled off the net is turned around a bit, but hopefully you can see that the next one back (anticlockwise) is the...

help !! what does this bit do ??

Ok, thanks for looking, bear with me.. (re 300tdi, single serpentine, no air con) Standing at the front, the serpentine belt goes (clockwise) past the tensioner (smooth side), over the top pulley, grooved side, (water pump?), over the small pulley, grooved side (alternator? I reckon so), then...
