v8 started running hotter than usual

what was the fuel gauge up to? I had these symptoms and it was a voltage regulator on the way out.

Which Carb Needle for 3.5L V8 with upgrades?

I used a program called WINSU, combined with the online mintylamb SU needle calculator to some success. I've got HS carbs on my V8 and it's a high comp one with SD1 heads, free flow filters, less exhaust and a +20 overbore, standard cam. KO needles are a bit rich top end (but are still in to...

    driving test question

One of my friends had the same in a Clio - they had a recall for the bonnet flipping up, and because she hadn't got proof that the 'fix' had been done they wouldn't let her take her test in it.

it does indeed go quite well, gottan app on my phone that's timed it at 9.5 seconds 0-60. It needs the octane boost to run at stock timing but will run (with a bit less go) without it if I retard it a bit.

it's gonna be juicy whatever... Part of the reason is that it falls out of tune really fast with the carbs, partly cos they're a bit old, but partly cos the bloody thing's trying to run a 10.5:1 compression ratio (plus a bit cos it's +20)

I can always change it back . More a 'see if I can do it' job.

I picked up a decent thor manifold for absolute peanuts (people on ebay can't spell...) and am going to attempt a thor/14CUX hybrid (CHEAP) system, mainly to see if I can. Might go MS later but the price scares me - I only paid £1K for the P6. But I need to get a manual gearbox in there first...

I want to rebuild my su carbs, where do i start?

Burlen LTD Home page is the place where most of the SU stuff ends up. I've had needles off them. Lots of the classic car places do rebuild/service kits too - minispares.com for example Carbs should be HS6 or HIF44 (separate or combined float chambers) I think. they're not hard to rebuild at...

Too true mate. I have less than half a clue how mine actually works :p

cor that's a bit special that. It looks HUUUGE - don't think it would fit in the P6 engine bay, so I'll stick with the buick :D loving the v-ateyness. And you have made me envious, but in a good way. Though you're a brave man to have added the cost up. Cheered me up this thread has :)

what I meant to add but forgot: is there anything else I should be doing while it's in this many bits? Gearbox input seal?

well that didn't work either... probably because the bore has a bit of a step in it. PC260018 by 1275midget, on Flickr so much so that I had to hammer the pistons out. There was fairly substantial evidence of blow past on the pistons which I forgot to take a picture of. (pistons were...

    Rear prop

I baked some wheels I'd sprayed outside, in the oven. What a bloody stink, and everything we ate from the oven smelt funny for about a week. Was not Mr popular for that.

Oh blooming heck. Now I want to fit Megajolt. Or Megasquirt??

lol @ diode, I had exactly the same issue with the engine change in the Midget. Bloody thing wouldn't turn off, even after I'd disconnected the battery. Had to unplug the fuel cutoff switch

lol. Will give that a go then next :) frendly fellers only tested the smoke as their MOT machine was buggered (wasn't talkin to VOSA) so twas free. Will blast oil out and give it another shot :)

V8 section has been a bit dull of late... :(

I've got a little garage, was the reason we're in this house - the g/f sent me to look at it BY MYSELF!!! (renting) and we got it on the strength of the garage :) When mum rang up to ask what it was like I just went it's a house but it's got a garage and it has electricity in it...

    MOT fail smokey smoker

well new valve seals have cured the cloud of impregnable blue smoke, but mr tester was not happy about the great big gobbets of oily blob it was chucking out of the back. One of em revved it while the other one had his hand over the back, and it were like a bomb had gone off in a tin of old...

    Cylinder heads

if you turn the engine over so that the valve in the port you're fettling is closed, then get a bit of thin- ish choob (thinner than hosepipe) and tape it to then hoover, stuff it in the port to suck all the bits out. that pic reminds me, my v8 leaks oil from that end seal near the dizzy.
