New to the landy scene any advice about a Series III

had that on my exRAF thing. if you decide to do this, try not to have an accident. your neck may be sore afterwards.

    Please help!

quick follow on question to this; i've got a similar problem - clutch fluid out the bell housing. new slave on order (yes, got the girling...). i've had a look through the ops manual, and the haynes, and i can see mostly how to do it, until they start talking about sliding back the plastic...

Seat Belt or NO seat belt

three point inertia reel for the centre seat: "L" bracket mounted on rear bulkhead, inertia reel mounted on "L" bracket, bolt the other two points to the seat base either side (obviously the receiver gets bolted on the opposite side of the seat from the inertia reel). works fine, and passes an mot.

    hmmm. disaster.

right - after doing some research (that my employer would far rather i wasn't doing) the haynes manual suggests knackered detent spring on the transfer box. where the bloody hell is that? the picture just shows a closeup of a spring, which is not quite as useful as it could be. can i do this...

    hmmm. disaster.

dang. it's the transfer box. mucked about a bit with it last night, and basically it pops out in first in high; once i'm up to about 5 miles an hour it stays in, but just moving off it pops out with a bang. the clutch has started slipping like a beeyatch in fourth, an all. and thank you...

    temperature gauge issue

got to bedford and back without overheating. all the way there stuck on red, all the way back never went above halfway... guess it's the voltage regulator. another dial to ignore on the front, then.

    hmmm. disaster.

they're definitely both still there. i looked. they even both appear to be connected. transmission box sounds difficult and expensive... is it? edit: of course, i mean transfer box. i'm just a little slow this morning...

    hmmm. disaster.

so i went to pick my landy up yesterday from the pub car park. started first time (thank you weber), put it into gear, moved off, theres an almighty bang, and there's no more go. Engine is still running fine, it goes into all the gears, hi range and lo range, and 4wd, but theres no power to the...

    temperature gauge issue

dang. after idling it for half an hour yesterday lunchtime the gauge went up to half way and stuck there on the way home. coming in to work this morning it went about a fifth of the way up before i'd even pulled off, got up into the red over the next two miles, and then dropped back to halfway...

    temperature gauge issue

hiya. been absent for a while. got my self a nice new landy - series 3, 1975, lwb station wagon, 2.25 petrol. one of the many problems is that the temperature gauge seems to shoot up incredibly quickly. after 90 seconds of idling the gauge is about a third of the way up. if i leave it idling it...

did you take the road spring off entirely when you did yours, or did you just undo it from the front end?

dumb irons on a series 3.

right. i've ordered me dumb irons (21 quid a pop at craddocks), and i've got a mobile welder blokey who will cut off the old ones and weld the new ones on for 60 quid (hooray!). do i need to take the whole spring off, as per 60.20.01 in the ROM, or can i get away with leaving the U-bolts in...

    Insurance costs

i've been insured with sabre (through the aa) this year - i must say they have been excellent (mind you, i'm old verging on ancient); i was in two accidents three days apart in october and they sorted everything out, paid me the full insured value of my landy, and gave me it back for 75 quid...

    axle stands and jack

i was going to get some axle stands and a jack to prop my landy up while i take the front springs off to get the dumb irons replaced; none of the stands on screwfix sound like they are going to be tall enough to prop under the chassis behind the spring (they all seem to stop at about 18")...
