My 1965 2a does not have seat belts, but it dos have a MOT. What I would like to know is what is the law with children and those boosters seats when no belts are fitted? My 3 year old nephew is obsessed with my landy but I darn't take him out in it!

fit a seat belt then he'll be safe

well i have a LWB 2a 1963 and the law says if they werent fitted to the vehicle when manaf. then no need to fit them, But some insurance companies say they have to and personal opinion is to just have them there only £25 from sams4x4s.com !!

SO I SAY FIT EM'

cheers chaps thanks for the feed back.... i will have to get down to the local car shop and get some then before i book the MOT

I think I'm correct in saying that children can sit in the back of a stock standard Rover without the need for booster seats nor seatbelts, Land Rover
didn't supply belts to the rear of Series machines.

I have to say that being young enough to be brought up with seat belts being a necessity, it does feel mighty strange to get into my 2a and not get strapped in. Can't help but feel slightly vulnerable and a series 2 bulkhead does not look fun to smash your teeth into!
Being too lazy to look around the adverts, what is the best way to mount safety belts in a truck cab including the middle seat, while still looking original? Or is it all about a compromise?
Cheers for any ideas!

three point inertia reel for the centre seat:
"L" bracket mounted on rear bulkhead, inertia reel mounted on "L" bracket, bolt the other two points to the seat base either side (obviously the receiver gets bolted on the opposite side of the seat from the inertia reel). works fine, and passes an mot.

The other bit is the law about kidds, i think even if your vehicle does not have them as standard, mine does not 4 the middle seat, a child under 12 or under x inches tall must be restrained so cannot ride ina vehicle without belts or some restraint. so i can put a 13 year old in the middle seat but not her 9 year old sister.

My PERSONAL view would be not to fit them so you have the option, but set up some syetem so a restraint can be used should you choose. I actually considered not buying my sIIa because the pre 65 allows me to choose if i use a belt.

Some will flame me with 'be safe and use 1', and i do sometimes, i guess my view is that it should be MY chioce, although i guess my passangerf should have the chioce 2 and under x age i agree sprogs should be forced to use 1 whatever the driver thinks.

But then i hate the motorcycle helmet law2.

I carry my 3 kids with me in my series 1 alot of the time. A local coppers view is landrover didnt fit belts so the kids can ride along without wearing one. I have fitted basic lap belts for my own piece of mind but are on quick release so if an adult decides to not wear one they can be removed....

Landy has two standard front seats and a 3 person bench seat facing to the rear with a head pad across the roll cage.

Point to note... If a seat belt is fitted, even if the vehicle is belt exempt you are by LAW required to wear it, and it must be upto an MOT standard if left in for the MOT test.
