Freelander 1 Tailgate window stuck open.... Kind of inconvenient.

5 door or 3 door? if 3 door, check out wiring to/from micro switch under edge of detachable roof. (it prevents the tailgate window raising when the roof is removed)

    FREELANDER HELP!! Handbreak problems

Take drums off and check the linkage inside the drums that connects the handbrake cable to the shoes, there's a pivot in the linkage that is known to seize, they can usually be freed of by removing, soaking pivot in penetrating oil and using a vice, pliers or grips etc work pivot back and forth...

    Hope I haven't broken anything.

+1 If the noises are coming from the rear brakes, I'd take the drums off and check the brake shoes as, apart from the shoes jumping off brackets or the pins rusting away, the friction material can become detached from the shoe. I know from experience what it's like if loose friction material...

Jatco auto box. complete fluid change.

Does anyone know if this is a common issue, as my td4 auto commercial has a flat spot at 50 mph, had put mine down to cruising at 50mph due to speed limit on commute to work.

    And so it begins! :(

Keep an eye on the oil level. Checked the oil on my td4 when the engine started running roughly and found level high. Local independant LR garage found a seal on injector pump had failed, allowing diesel to pass into sump.

Do all Freelanders have a FBH?

"The Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) heater replaces the Fuel Burning Heater (FBH) fitted to Td4 vehicles in markets of a moderate climate. The PTC heater, like the FBH, is an auxiliary heating system that compensates for the relatively low coolant temperature inherent in the diesel...
