    Water leak

The general consensus is that the OAT-type coolants don't agree with the composite head gaskets in the 300TDi, so I'm going for the standard Ethylene Glycol stuff. The last thing I want to do is have more leaks after a few weeks! But I agree, I reckon the state of the coolant I took out...

    Water leak

I agree with the rest! After having 2 goes at sorting out a water leak (read - overheating) I found on my 3rd attempt that the rear block core plug had rotted through at the bottom (engine out!!). I have since replace all 5 core plugs in the block and those in the head too. Having spent so...

    300TDi Flywheel Bolts

I've already re-used them once when I changed the Flexi Plate last year, I've got the engine out at the moment sorting out the coolant leak and replacing core plugs, and had the flywheel off to replace the one at the end of the camshaft so not really sure if I want to risk re-using them again?

    300TDi Flywheel Bolts

Anyone know the part number for the 8 flywheel bolts for the 300TDi? I've searched around on the internet but not having much luck. Apparently they are supposed to be replaced once removed and tightened to 146Nm  Cheers.

    300TDi Engine Mounts

I have just lifted the 300TDi engine out of the Disco, and it seems there are 2 of the 8 bolts that fix the engine mount plates to the block. Does anyone know what size I need or the part number please? Thanks, JB

    Cracked Head??

Cleaned the head up tonight and checked for warpage as best I can with what tools I have. I used an engineers rule which I checked against the engineers block I have and am confident it is actually straight. I then checked the head in several places, unfortunately the rule is not quite long...

    Which Head Gasket - 300TDi

Not sure how they do the crack checks, but I think they use either a vacuum or pressure to check for internal cracking between the various galleys/oilways etc. Either that or they use Non-Destructive Testing checking using dye and 'magic' equipment! :) (Not exactly sure how it's done but I know...

    Which Head Gasket - 300TDi

Thanks guys. Gazbo, I will be replacing the head bolts, this is the third time I have removed the head and I do not know if the bolts have been used more than 4/5 times in total so for the sake of a few pounds I am getting new. From what I understand the maximum warpage allowed on a head...

    Which Head Gasket - 300TDi

Which head gasket does the collective recommend? Laminated or multi-layer metal one?

Hi, Andrew (Turboman) gave me your name as possible source of help with my Disco 1. I have taken the head off (chasing a cooling/leaking issue) and want to get it checked for cracks and true. Would you know anywhere in the are who might be able to do it for me? We live near Bude (Jacobstow)...

    Cracked Head??

don't suppose you know of anyone down my neck of the woods who is recommended? I've tried asking on here for more local member's advice but not had any joy as yet.

    Cracked Head??

Would that be consistent with a bow in the centre of the head?

    Cracked Head??

Thanks for the reply. Here are a couple more pics of the head and gasket: I think you're probably right about changing all the core plugs, if ones gone, chances are the rest aren't far behind. Is it worth using the multi-layer gasket instead of the composite? Apparently LR 'upgraded' to...

    Cracked Head??

Some pictures of the head and gasket. The small restrictor is shown on it's own and you can see where it was fitted to the gasket. I have also put in a couple of pictures of the block rear core plug (bit of a git to photograph using a mirror and torch!) In the first image of the block, you...

    Cracked Head??

Well, taken the head off and the gasket doesn't look to have any breaks/leaks that I can see. I haven't got an engineers straight edge, but using two different thick steel rules there is the smallest amount of warp on the head but I cannot be 100% it is within limits so I will have to find...

    Cracked Head??

I get what you mean, but even if I get another head (if needed) then there is no guarantee that it hasn't been skimmed too. I guess until I get the head off I won't know what's next anyhow. Just getting somewhat P'd off the amount of times the damn thing has been off the road lately! I know if...

    Cracked Head??

OK, see what you mean now. I have an engineer's plate, would I be able to check for true myself or is it best to get it done by a garage? Thanks
