Kick Down cable is wrongly named, yes it does do kick down but it is also how the gearbox senses throttle position for normal changes.

Hi Does anyone know where the cruise ecu is on a 1997 300tdi auto please. Haynes manual says drop the panel below the steering column, done that, cant see an ecu!

I think the socket only works when the alternator is charging, well its like that on my D1 which has the suplimetary socket kit fitted.

Just paid £166 with Sureterm Direct for my 1997 300tdi auto no mods for me and her indoors. We both have other vehicles so I don't know how much difference that makes.

Although they call it a kick down cable it does more than that. It is the kickdown cable that tells the gearbox the throttle settings throughout the speed range, pre leccy boxes off course. So throttle position and road speed tell the box what gear to be in.

Hi With regard to blanking the egr on a 300tdi, is there any reason why I can't just undo the allan bolts, put in a piece of stainless steel and bolt it all back up again? Do I need to go the trouble of changing the pipe etc?

It is entirely possible if you can find the wires in the loom. Some people have fitted a switch instead of the sensor so it can be controlled manually. A disadvantage of them is that after been on a run and you put the car in the garage it fills the garage with diesel fumes as the fan in the fbh...
