    help in somerset

Hi i'm not far away but no mechanic so wouldn't be much help in these matters! Is the remaining rotation likely just slack from worn transmission components?

Jack won't fit in Galvanised Chassis

Bottle jack is a good shout, its small and easy to store in the cabin and much quicker to use if placed under axle etc making it ideal for changing wheels etc on the move. If using at home buy a trolley jack, they are worth the money having one. The standard jack takes a ridiculously long time...

Rusty leak hole repair advise :)

I think buehaze is referring to the [side] body panel which is between the body capping and the roof. This has a seal on the bottom of it which is where the leak has likely occured. With a bit of help there is the chance that the side panel could be removed without having to take the entire...

    what trans box

If you look at the back of the transfer box near the filling plug there will be a serial number stamped on the casing. The first 3 digits/letters can be used to identify what ratio it should be (provided not rebuilt and innards changed etc).

    Me noo toy..

Good luck with it. Its odd how you see some which aren't really that old and the bodywork is just disintegrating on them.

Water in the cab during a 'fast pass' in a puddle...

Not sure how you would have got so much water in so easily. The entire cabin is potentially leaky - there is a seal between the floor plates and floor and transmission tunnel and floor as well as seat box etc. Bottom door seals are often missing from older Landys as they are attached to the...

    90/110/Defender Cubby Box - Somerset

Hi all I have a cubby box for sale. £15 or make me an offer. Used but in reasonable condition. If your LR is an immaculate show piece then it would look tatty but for working or off-road vehicles would be OK. The material in the front section looks a bit tatty where tea has been spilt in the...

    fog lamp prob

Check the +12V contact is actually making good contact with the bulb. I have problems with my reversing light not working (identical design as fog light) and likewise there is nothing wrong with the components but the live contact is barely in contact with the bulb. I bent the contact further...

    Bulbs

I would also recommend Osram Night Breakers, the packaging indicates that they might have shorter life than "regular" bulbs but I have never had one blow. I've used H4s in the headlights and H1s in front spots and they were excellent. Much cheaper than halfords snazzy ones as well.

What have you done to your Landie today.

Just fitted EGR bypass. Bolts on exhaust side were a pain but luckily didn't sheer.

    insurance

Thanks not a bad price, mine is similar with Flux and very similar age, NCD etc. I first used them about 2 years ago and got a significantly cheaper quote than the mainstream insurers and was able to declare the few mods/accessories I had. Always pays to shop around though.

    Vogue 90...

Between the driving position and cramped interior I just can't see it working. For comfort changing the seats is about all you can do, rear bulkhead removal for hardtop. As for interior upgrades I would consider a raptor console or similar but anything more is asking for trouble and would...

    Tyre Novice

Ideally the wider the tyre the greater the wheel offset will want to be to compensate for the steering lock/rubbing on radius arms, otherwise you would have a pretty poor turning circle. Then the greater the offset/tyre size the more stuff gets thrown up the bottom and side of the vehicle. Even...

    Locking Wheel Nuts ???????

Without pointing to where they came from its hard to say what they should be for. Defender stud/wheel nut size has been the same all the way through so short of miss-selling the locking wheel nuts there shouldn't be any reason for them not to fit.

    Galvanic Isolator?

The recent purchase - TD5 Depender has bucket loads of the alloy/galvanic corrosion on the go, on most of the body panels and even underneath with major paint flakage to boot. Can a device such as this which is designed for use on boats help prevent this [from getting worse]? I remember...
