Yes the tool is a must. It cost me 40 from franklin in Sheffield who make them. That's coz the person selling them on eBay shows 3 on stock but doesn't actuall have any. Give me a shout if you need help

ok i think/hope ive sorted it now. having removed and refitted it 3 times in total its now stopped leaking. i ended up restripping the pump and cleaning the surfaces with wet and dry and tightening the screws as tight as i dare without stripping the threads. for anyone thinking of trying this...

update. i've removed the pump and fitted new seals in all 3 of the caps, only to find once refitting that the cap facing the radiator is now leaking but the original one (nearest the block) is not. i removed it again and checked the seals were sat right and refitted still to find it leaks when...
