hi all i just started my freelander 04 td4 to move it out of the way on the drive and after switching it off there is a high pitch whiney noise that continues for a couple of mins and has hot slightly blueish gasses that emit from a small exhaust under the passenger side of the bonnet near the floor. what on earth is this. also do these cars have no glow plugs as i've yet to see a light come on but it starts perfectly.

It's a Fuel Burning Heater.
It should start up when the outside temp is 5 degrees. It helps to warm the engine water temp. The noise you can hear is the heater going through it's 'run down' cycle for a short while after you turn off the ignition.
All perfectly normal but it can be disconnected if you want to.
It might still be a little warm for the glow plugs to work. Mine dont.........yet.
