157K on a 90 CSW 300Tdi, 1996 'N'

Someone else said that, and it was what I thought when I saw the pics in the advert before I bought it, but it's just the metal cap that's missing. The nut is safely in place:)

That's what I thought had happened as soon as I saw it - and was quite relieved really that it was only through the rubber filler pipe, and also that they left the landy behind! It is very rural here, so I guess they just drive around looking for suitable defenders. I'll report it and see if...

I think it was nicked because there was about 15 litres in the tank, and that would have made a lot more mess than what went on the road...also, that cut wouldn't let any diesel spill on its own - it's been sucked out of that hole. I've cleaned up the diesel too - dumped a load of sand on it.

Woke up this morning, looked out of the window and thought the landy had spilt it's guts... Then went to see what had snapped and found this! There was hardly any in it anyway, and they must have left most of it on the road. I never keep much in the tank in case it leaks anyway...

Mine is the same. I thought it was the sun roof, so I sealed it completely outside using duck tape, but the inside is still soaking....I think I need to look further back..it is parked on a slope, facing forwards, so must be coming in further back. I've got the water ingress manual - does...

I thought I'd resurrect this thread...I got hold of a full metal jacket this week, and it seems pretty good, solid, and well made.

Full Metal Jacket - RS Laser I know they are very popular for vans, but they make one which fits Defenders. Not a lot of info anywhere though about how they work, or how good they are, especially from other Defender owners!

Nothing at all? Nobody seen or tried one, or heard anything about them? I suppose I'm going to be the guinea pig then...

Has anyone tried one of these? I was going to get a clutch claw, but for an extra tenner or so, I could get a full metal jacket, which in theory looks like it would be a bit more secure, by fully covering all the pedals. The trouble is, there isn't a lot of info on them around....Anyone on...

Ok, I think it was down to the weight on the bonnet. I just shoved a folded up newspaper in the gap (wedged hard) and that was enough to keep the catch open when I pulled on the cable. So if you're bonnet mounting the spare wheel, keep a newspaper in case of breakdowns:D It does need a good...

It sort of does. It pulls out about 1.5 inches, and feels pretty solid. Will try this evening with an extra pair of hands, although that isn't very useful if I break down somewhere alone:-)

Thanks guys. What does this catch look like? Just wondering if this might be a two man job. Reason being, my spare sits on the bonnet. Could it be that the cable it releasing the mechanism fine, but it just locks again as soon as you release the cable because of the weight of the wheel? When...

Hey guys First question. I can't open the bonnet anymore:-) I guess the cable has got a bit slack. It hasn't snapped, and is still connected at both ends, but won't open when I yank it. Presumably, I need to manually release the mechanism, and then tighten the cable a bit. I can't get at it...

It's my first Land Rover, so I was thinking about going to this LR place in Kent and doing the day course in a Defender! Is it worth it? Usually £275 for the full day, but they have offers on, where two people can do it, for £250. Is it worth it? Anyone had a go? Sounds like it might be fun to...

A quick update! I went along and viewed the one which was a few miles from here, and it was great! So I pulled the triger and collected it tonight! No rot underneath or on the body (from what I could see anyway, and I did climb and poke around underneath it for ages!). It drove really well...
