What did you do with your Range Rover today

It might be that the filter cartridge fits your engine and the older style ones with the stalk Kermit, I distinctly remember a stalk / spindle, but that was a 3.6... and the newer models with the V6 in have a similar thing. Very odd yours doesn't really  Edit: apparently you have a...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

It's been a while since I touched a TDV8, but it should have a spindle in the oil filter cap, and there's two smaller O rings on that. I always change them on Rovers... I might be less dedicated with some other brands ;)

What did you do with your Range Rover today

If you're used to petrols, diesel engines will always give you black oils. Like, if you put fresh oil in, start it to circulate it and then check it, it's usually black even with an engine flush product used. Just the way dieseasals are!

What did you do with your Range Rover today

This tickled me. I was talking to someone recently who said, "i wanted a Range Rover, but hubby (who doubtless has never seen a spanner let alone used one) said they're unreliable". "Only if you don't maintain them, but there's more to maintain than a little hatch back" says I. Then she got...

"Oh bugger, the alternator doesn't fully charge the battery, shall we swap it?" "Nah, just make up some waffle for the unsuspecting public!" ;):D

"Oh, there's a bit of space down there where you could get to bits... ah, just stick some plastic with sharp edges down there, that'll keep people from working on it!"

What did you do with your Range Rover today

EGR will be a ballache, but well worth it to save that "gum" (which is effectively cutting paste - it's moisture and soot of varying sizes) getting elsewhere... Volvos with excessive EGR quantities have issues like the cylinder head getting scored and needing a rebuild after 35k miles. Go on...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Actually diagnosing a fault using modern diagnostics is a skill set in itself. It points you to a starting point but it never gives you the answer!

Not impossible but a lot riskier than normal thermals I imagine. Shocking!

At least all the snow had stayed out until you opened it! :D

What did you do with your Range Rover today

It's hit and miss pre 2010, some do, some had it as an option and most of them aren't as prone to blocking as later ones. It was the new Euro emissions standards in 2010 that started killing cars (unless they cheated the emissions test)

Or drive to Scotland with your foot hard down on the loud pedal ;)

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Meaning by the time the car tells you your DPF needs attention, it's fooked (I'm thinking of BMW specifically here, they're a bloody nightmare!)

What did you do with your Range Rover today

It is, but lots of them have stupidly narrow regen windows. So, it won't regen with less than X or more than Y grams of soot, but X and Y are so close it's very hard to actually get to that sweet spot. My current job is probably just on the cusp of where I'd need to periodically regen the DPF...

    Buying a broken engine RRsport

If you like the shape, it's worth finding out how well it's been maintained. I'm sure there are some well kept ones out there. I doubt you could do everything it sounds like it needs with the engine in, but I suppose it depends what the actual damage is. I'm all for saving LRs even if it...

    Buying a broken engine RRsport

If I remember correctly, the 3l diesel is the one where the crank sometimes unpredictably spins itself, meaning even if the belt is OK it could have knackered itself. In my experience, lots of that gen RR Sports have been neglected. The air suspension is usually knackered, and has been for...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

I'm thinking of buying something without a green oval as a commuter (I love Red Rover but 1988 is a bit old for a daily). I won't buy anything post 2010 because of DPFs - we get so many blocked DPFs that won't regen it's ridiculous!

Classic Side lights not working on one side

Solved it, it was corrosion in the front bulb holder, all cleaned up and working again now. I checked the back, it was fine, figured the front would (it was cold and dark in my defense). I'll leave this here for anyone else who has the same issue and hates electrickery!

Classic Side lights not working on one side

After I said I hated electrics with my last electrickery issue, Red Rover has decided to play up some more. I have side lights on one side (the right) but not the left. Front and rear lamps both not working. Everything else works on the left, including the other filament in the bulb (the brake...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

First proper commute in Red Rover today, since the new alternator, ran fine and seems to be charging. Hurrah!
