So just taken the stop solinoid off the injection pump and there is metal fillings stuck to the solinoid. The ticking is coming from that area so now I’m certain it’s the injection pump. What I wanted to know is would it be a better idea to get this pump rebuilt or get a second hand one? thanks

It sounds like it’s comi from the pump when I’m under the bonnet. We had a tractor with a bosch ve pump do the exact same. I’ll dig a bit deeper and make sure it’s the pump Thanks for all the replies

The engine starts and stops fine so I don’t think it’s an the solinoid. It’s making a very fast ticking noise when it’s driving

Hi guys, I’ve got a defender with a 300 and the injection pump has started ticking mainly when the engine isn’t under load. My question is would it be better to get this one rebuilt or to source a decent second had one? Thanks

The brakes feel really smooth so I don’t think the discs are warped. I had a look on my mates 90 and that has some sort of valve on the bulkhead that the brake lines go to and mine hasn’t got this. Is there anywhere I can get a diagram of the original brake set up?

thanks for the quick reply. Does it matter what layshaft I use? I’ve pressed all the bearings onto the shaft meant for the gear with a washer. The nut tightens up the same so I think it will be okay

Well that’s better than a bent chassis :) I’ll pinch the panhard rod off of my old mans 90 and try that tomorrow. Maybe it’s had a lift kit on before and the threads stripped.

This is the panhard rod on the axle end. I’m starting to think that’s the problem now. Is there a certain length they’re supposed to be?

It hasn’t got an adjustable panhard rod on. Although the end that bolts onto the axle has a thread on that has been welded up. Is that how they were made? Also the chassis is a galvanised chassis so it’s been replaced sometime. I know it doesn’t mean it’s perfect but surly they would of got the...

So I can’t see any movement in the panhard bushes and can’t see any unwanted movement on the rear axle. Is it possible that the chassis is bent?
