LED daytime running lights & work lamp

Thanks for the advise on the work-lamp. I WAS thinking of fixing them to the front face of the bumper. They are just small 'panel mount' style round LED's (18mm I think). But maybe you're right. Perhaps the test should be ........ If you I don't actually need them, they must be just 'bling' :-)

LED daytime running lights & work lamp

No. All my lights remain standard. And that is my intention to keep them like that. I just wondered about LED daytime running lights, and a LED work light at the back.

LED daytime running lights & work lamp

Hello all, I've read lots of posts concerning the problems encountered with LED light conversions. I'm hoping you can tell me that these all stem from the way the car is wired and original relays etc not being designed for LED's So I'm hopeful you can tell me I won't have the same problems if I...

    Giga counter clicking

I haven't driven my TD5 defender (1999) for a week. In stead, it's been stood out in the heavy rain. Now it's started clicking like a Giga counter in the presence of mild radiation ! When I disable the alarm / immobiliser, it stops. But then starts again some time after as though the alarm has...

Defender 90 TD5 rear Fuel tank guard options

I have a rear tank guard that's rusted and looks a mess. Can I replace it with a paddock spares galvanised one from underneath ? Will it involve removing the fuel tank at the same time ? All advice welcome and appreciated. (I've had a new galv chassis, but retained all original serviceable parts...

    Poor headlights

Just interested....the "loom for a few quid" mentioned in this thread.....are you talking about a new headlight loom only ? OR the whole thing ?

    Sticky out grill

Thinking about future mods for my 1999 TD5 and I think I like the look of the more modern versions that have the grill that sits proud of the front of the wings and headlight surrounds. I expect it coincided with the puma engine ? Am I right ? just need to know - 1. What to ask / look for and 2...

    Headlight issue

Absolutely. Anyone reading this thread should take Nobber's advice. As I forgot to mention in my post, The original live feed to the switch should be isolated at both ends. In my case, I removed the fused link (no 6) at the fuse box and I cut the brown live wire in between the white connector...

    Headlight issue

I don't know whether this will be classed as a positive or negative response, but if all else fails this is the benefit of my very recent experience (cut and pasted from a similar thread this evening)........ I recently had a very similar sounding problem with my 1999 td5. Except when my lights...

    Lights, lights, lights!

I recently had a very similar sounding problem with my 1999 td5. Except when my lights went out I had nothing. No tails / side lights / or dipped beam, but the main beam worked fine. (and i had the buzzing yellow dim dip relay). eventually traced it to a fault in the supply from the main fuse...

    Reverse light wiring????

I'd start with just running a new live from the switch to the lamp. Having proven you have no live feed at the lamp, there;s no reason to suspect the earth needs replacing too at this stage. Good luck. (Isolate the old live wire, in case the root cause is a short to earth. That is, cut it and...

    Fault Found:No side/head/tail lights - I've replaced switch

With the help of an RAC man and his superior electrical test equipment we isolated the fault to the supply from the main fuse under the seat to the switch. So a temporary but totally safe fix has been to remove the fused link (no 6) and run a new 30 amp wire from the live rail in the fuse box...

    Springs - higher or stick

All good advice.Thank you. Gonna stick with standard ride height upon this advice. Now - if I could just get my lights problem sorted, I could actually drive it !

    Fault Found:No side/head/tail lights - I've replaced switch

Daft question, but when they last worked, it was after the engine was at running temp. could it be anything to do with the dim dip resister which i think is the off side wing ??

    Fault Found:No side/head/tail lights - I've replaced switch

I've now replaced the dim/dip relay and there is no change. No lights at all. The key to this must lie in the fact that with the light switch off I read about 10 volts at the live feed to the switch. When the switch is on it reads zero volts. By my reckoning you only get 0 volts if both probes...

Thank you both. This sounds like good advice.

    Springs - higher or stick

As part of a rebuild I had to have new but stock shocks. The springs however are old and rusty and look horrible. Rimmer Bros sell springs which offer a 45mm higher ride height. Can I achieve a 45mm higher ride height with my standard shocks ? or do I need to replace springs with standard ride...
