Gap between tunnel cover and bulkhead

Hi, I've rebuilt a couple of Landies and if I remember correctly, there is a sort of gasket fitted from new. I suppose a metal-to-metal joint would not be very watertight on the floor...? I used a mastic strip used for remaking joints in caravan bodywork. Comes in a box and has a layer of paper...

How to test a brake servo?

Thanks Dan, I was in my nearest stealer's today and like a techy at my usual servicing garage, the workshop foreman said he had never known a Disco 3 master cylinder needing to be replaced.. I am coming to the conclusion that's the problem though... I get your meaning about the flexible hoses...

How to test a brake servo?

I was reversing slowly down a slope to park a couple of days back and the brake pedal went slowly down to the boards and the car kept moving slightly.. There was a strange noise (gurgling!) from the servo/master cylinder area which hasn't repeated. Just towed a caravan 15 miles.. The pedal...

    Geeing up a D2 Auto?

Okay, thanks. My 90 has a remap carried out by a previous owner, certainly makes a difference. Wouldn't consider the big intercooler as I think it's powerful enough, though I had one fitted to a new 200TDi Disco1 years ago and it made it into a far better motor and overtaking became much easier...

    Geeing up a D2 Auto?

I'm contemplating a 2002 Disco2 auto but we've driven two in the past (dealer test drives) and compared to the manuals we've previously owned, we found them very sluggish.. As one of its jobs will be to pull a horse trailer occasionally I feel I'd need to get more power. Is a remap and maybe a...

    TD5 Replacement clutch, which one.

First make sure the clutch slipping is due to wear.. Likely after that mileage, but a common fault is a leak in the diesel pressure relief valve, which can leak fuel into the top right side of the bellhousing, contaminating the clutch.. It happened to me and several others I know with TD5's...

    Troublesome Seller - or Scammer

I've just found this old thread of mine and decided to 'tie it up'. There was a very good reason why this guy didn't show up at the NEC. He was in custody! I got a phone call a few days later from plod, who had found my number on his mobile phone. It seems that the sale may have been genuine...

    V8 Defender 90 ratio query

Could I suggest an email to Dave Ashcroft of Ashcroft Transmissions, Luton, the acknowledged Landy after-market gearbox expert. He might be able to put you on the right track and send whatever's necessary. Another option is KAM diffs (crownwheels & pinions) which you would need to change...

    Selling an Auto TD5?

Private buyer looking for TD5 auto with reasonable mileage at a sensible price around £5k - £8k.

    Balloon type air jack

Yep, I used them in the Fire Service, great for lifting stuff (like rolled vehicles) that had a very small gap underneath. There was a big problem with instability when they got high, things would tend to roll off them, had to be careful but they were very effective. It was a long time ago so...

LPG - An Old Chestnut but still viable?

Got the chance of a 2002 V8 auto Disco at a great price. Is LPG still a viable option? I'm out of touch with the old debate as to when the tax on it will shoot up as rumoured constantly. To buy this motor, LPG would be the only answer to lower running costs.. Anyone run one?

    Six speed gearbox TD5?????????

There is another way, talk to KAM about different diff ratios, though it's much more expensive than altering cogs in the transfer box - which is where to do it, not in the main gearbox. But as Charles says above, it does alter all the gears. However, if you also get a performance upgrade...

    Troublesome Seller - or Scammer

Last week I saw an ad on the AdTrader website for a Disco in Dudley, phoned the seller and asked all the right questions, won't bore you with it all. On a subsequent call he volunteered to fax me the documents, and after a bit of trouble I found that my neighbours had a fax machine but after...

Would a Re-shelled Disco be Recorded?

Thanks for that.. I'll have a look.. Only kidding about The Stig, but one of them has a website as he does after-dinner talks.. If we were 'young, free and single' again, we'd only end up in the same boat, but with someone else..

    anti 4x4 brigade!!!!!!!!

Corr, I think there's a good case for a Dyslexics 4x4 Club.. Don't suppose anyone would be able to follow the directions to their meetings, though... What ticks me off about that anti 4x4 lot is that they are going to affect everyone who owns a 4x4, including small farmers who depend on 4x4's...

Would a Re-shelled Disco be Recorded?

Thanks Stig, errm, could you be THE Stig...?? The one who went off the aircraft carrier...!! Anyway, in the meantime I've had a reply from the company which did the check.. Although AutoCheck is as comprehensive as is currently possible, it may not reveal that the vehicle has been declared a...

Would a Re-shelled Disco be Recorded?

Next week I'm going to look at a Disco TD5 which was re-shelled a couple of years ago. Presumably it must have been a write-off at some point for that to be done, but the owners brother (hmmm...) who is selling it claims it isn't recorded. I've done an HPI check and it comes back okay... Can...
