Got the chance of a 2002 V8 auto Disco at a great price. Is LPG still a viable option? I'm out of touch with the old debate as to when the tax on it will shoot up as rumoured constantly. To buy this motor, LPG would be the only answer to lower running costs.. Anyone run one?

The tax will be shooting up in Oct when the chancellors 3p a litre is added. He has vowed to reduce the tax differential between petrol and LPG by increasing the duty on LPG by more than petrol at each budget. Quite why he has choosen to penalise one of the cleanest fuels around is known only to this fat faced moron who I wouldn't widdle on if he was on fire.

Hi - I have a 1999 Series 2 V8 running on LPG (Sequential BRC System) for more than 2 years & 18K miles - i swear by her and wouldn't change it for anything at the moment. I get approx 210 - 220 miles from 70 ltrs of LPG @ 0.46p a litre (£33) that's only 14 mpg but equivilent to 28mpg + actual cost (Plus most of my motoring is stop start / town work). Basically my V8 costs the same to run as a TD5 but with 0.002 % CO2 emissions (As per my last MOT data reading) i'm doing my bit for the enviroment too. Although Gordon Brown obviously doesn't reckonise this !! Hope that helps

It is typical of this stick and carrot govt. All stick and no carrot. The poxy £15 reduction in road fund licence for an investment of £2,000 ( average conversion cost ) but only for those who bother to change the fuel type on their V5, isn't worth the effort.
