    Portable 12volt winch

Sorry forgot my question - any recommendations? Cheers

    Portable 12volt winch

Considering having the flexibility of a portable 12v winch - unsuitable for deep tow out jobs but possibly useful for lots of other things. I assumed eBay and Amazon would be stuffed full of them but not so. Looking for a unit with a fixed hook (to strap round a tree or off a beam) and hook and...

    Oil Pressure Switch - TD5

T-piece and a gauge - you can never have enough information about oil pressure

Defender TD5 hunting at low revs

Could look to see if you fuel filter needs cleaning. I went all round the houses with a similar problem - checking the MAF, changing the injector loom etc. before finding that all I needed was a new fuel filter. Might be worth a try if old and if not that at least you are part way through a service.

    Deluxe seats,+/- head rests?

I have the headrest deluxe seats in my S3 - Not entirely convinced they would stop severe whiplash from a rear shunt but they make me feel better that there is a chance of them doing something. Quite comfy - at 6' they work for me but with the thicker back I removed the rubber door stops from...

Wet Defender TD5 and non-stop horn

The Security System is not part of the ECU but is in a small box behind the instrument panel. Doesn't look as if the water got that high but if it did that might be the issue - from recollection I don't think it is in a bomb proof case like the ECU. What does the diagnostic kit (Hawkeye?) tell...

how do i change my series 3 washer jets

[Series III 1980 88"] Sorry for waking up an old thread - I have to do this too (replace the washer jets). I seem to have removed a lot of self taping screws from the dash top but it seems to remain stubbornly in place. Is there a special sequence or shall I just keep taking screws out above and...

No Nipple - not even a space for one - 1980 Series 3 SWB

And I think my Series 3 is uncouth!

No Nipple - not even a space for one - 1980 Series 3 SWB

PS - it had an MOT today so hopfully the clonk is not from bushes etc. - the guy said it was a first for him …. failed it on the screen washers only ….. not that they didn't work … there simply weren't any - no bottle, pump, motor, pipework or nozzles. Wonder how it got its last MOT?

No Nipple - not even a space for one - 1980 Series 3 SWB

I'll give it a go - confirmed today that it now only clonks when coming off the gas so it has improved something. There was a lot of play in the spline of the removed propshaft. Still learning - very familiar with Defender TD5 - this Series is like a very uncouth version although it does have...

No Nipple - not even a space for one - 1980 Series 3 SWB

I took off the prop shaft and had a drive around. Clunk only happening on lifting foot quickly off accelerator, although it's all a bit difficult to tell, remove one noise and another seems to become prevalent. Fitted the new prop and there is an improvement although I can still get a good clonk...

    Electrical issues

You could have a good point 4. Defective Alternator A car alternator recharges the battery and powers certain electrical systems like lights, radio, air-conditioning, and automatic windows. If your alternator has a bad diode, your battery can drain. The bad alternator diode can cause the circuit...

    Electrical issues

1980 Series 3 with 200TDi - I have the same - idling the red light is on, a few revs it goes out. Leave it for any length of time and the battery drains out but a quick charge and all good again. Is it just that an unhealthy battery also has problems charging (Red light)? I'll do a swap next...

No Nipple - not even a space for one - 1980 Series 3 SWB

New front prop ordered - I'll report back later. FWH's seem to be a contentious subject - I'll revisit later - I have a plethora of more pressing strange noises to deal with first.

That sounds like a plan - thank you

No Nipple - not even a space for one - 1980 Series 3 SWB

Hello, I'm totally new to Series having changed from a TD5 Defender so please forgive a possibly stupid question. I get a clunk from the front when accelerating and taking my foot off the pedal in all gears. Looking at the front prop shaft I notice a few things - the gaiter is long gone - I can...

    Oh Dear!! What to do?

I ended up with a choice of a pretty decent sum of money or the swap. The swap easily won - the young guy who had the S3 was a very nice chap who had done a lovely job on it, he also had a spare TD5 chassis, and this was probably the only way he could afford to (eventually) be behind the wheel...

    Oh Dear!! What to do?

ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL - But its goodbye to the Defender Forum and Hello to the Series Forum. Having considered all of my options of what to do with a structurally damaged but still lovely Defender 90 TD5 I thought before I part it out or attempt to buy another to transfer the bits on to I...

    Oh Dear!! What to do?

Thanks, I'll look into all of these but there will be no avoiding the big-brother databases going forward. If you have ever ended up on one of these through no fault of your own (number plate cloning) it is almost impossible to get your (or the cars) name cleared. The 1st challenge I had from...
