TD5 Defender and keeping a high miler rolling

TD5 110 X reg with close to 150,000 miles on the clock As it's approaching a milestone I'm going to give it a good look over. It's running well at the moment, had a replacement head at 100K and a turbo at 140K. Runs good, pulls well, no smoke, starts on the button and I want to keep it that way...

    Emissions... what Emissions?

https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-6752439/Diesel-Land-Rover-Discovery-20-times-cleaner-dirty-Renault-Clio-supermini.html Maybe the demonisation of new diesel engines has been taken a bit too far... "ADAC last week found that the latest Euro6 models were producing little to no...

    JLR engines and the future

A return to the 'straight six' https://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/land-rovers-newest-engine-400bhp-straight-six So life in the old internal combustion engine yet, albeit a modest 3.0l not 4.2l.... Always loved the old 4.2 six, with the 3 SU's in the old E type. Cylinders like buckets.

    TD5 110 '99 147K oil light

So yesterday the oil light flickered on and stayed on for a while before extinguishing. Probably due for another service (have a service kit on order) but I've been keeping an eye on the levels and dipstick (which is a pain to get an accurate read on with the TD5) which reads just over max...

    Defender TD5 Wiper Motor

So I got round to having a look at the wiper motor in the Defender today. Symptoms have been a bit sluggish operation, and a god awful screeching from the motor The wiper boxes and the cable look OK, no wear and don't appear to be slipping. No teeth missing in the motor. Parks in the right place...

    Clutch noise

So occasionally, normally when cold and from stationary, when I depress the clutch and select 1st or reverse and start to lift off the clutch to pull away, I get a grinding, slipping gear noise, almost as if the gear was only partially engaged. So I dip the clutch again all the way down again...

Defender TD5 Fuel pump noise- what is normal?

...just what is a 'normal' sound for a 110 TD5 fuel pump... mine makes a fairly constant but steady mid pitch whine even when engine started. Has done ever since I got it 6 months ago. Starts on the button and runs well, but I am getting concerned I might be dumped on the side of a road in the...

TD5 CSW 110 load bay seating mounts

Hi My 110CSW has lost it's load bay seating at some point in the last 16 years- the front and centre row seats are a nice Exmoor Trim leather spec. I am in the middle of recarpeting and am now at the stage where I can think about getting some matching seats for the load bay area. I don't want to...

    Windscreen seal

Hi Just working my way around an old 110 TD5 I've bought recently. Have managed to stop most of the leaks (a miracle) but my windscreen rubber seal is perished and looks like it needs replacing. I don't want the bulkhead to rust! I've heard the screen removal is probably best left to the...

    Hi all

Having recently returned to the Land Rover ownership family, after some years away, thought it was time to join the forums. Bought a TD5 110CSW which I am in the process of restoring. Previously I've owned an early Freelander, and a long time ago, a lovely Series IIA (still missing that one)...
