    P38 abs / traction fault.

Checked voltages and speed readings under 5mph and they all seem to be giving out similar readings ( 2.5v ). Will have a bit more time next weekend so will get the the vehicle up on axle stands and remove the wheels to make access a little easier.

    P38 abs / traction fault.

2001 4.0L P38 County. Vehicle has been sorned for the past 18 months and has been parked undercover with the battery on a maintenance charger and a dehumidifier running in the cabin. Finally got around to getting it ready for a mot last week. Jobs done were, nearside upper and lower ball joints...

P38 hard very occasional hard brake pedal ( hopefully cured ).

I was quite surprised when I took it to bits that it was so complex! I expected a simpler piston type design. I suppose for the operation of the abs and traction control to work correctly you need more control / separation of the flow for each wheel.

P38 hard very occasional hard brake pedal ( hopefully cured ).

The seals ( perhaps I should have used the words O rings? ) are to seal various parts of the abs piston.

Yes that’s the guy! His website is rangeroversolutions.com

P38 hard very occasional hard brake pedal ( hopefully cured ).

Got them a few years ago from a guy in Australia ( strange but true ). I will try to find his details

P38 hard very occasional hard brake pedal ( hopefully cured ).

2001 4.0L. Has had a very occasional hard brake pedal. I initially replaced the accumulator, then tried a used abs pump but the problem would still reappear. Took it off the road this spring to get a long list of small jobs done. Rear brake lines had been replaced at some point, but as they...

    P38 abs sensors ( 2001 4.0L ).

Managed to spend some time on the p38 today. Found an old ABS ecu in my treasure trove of stripped parts from a donor vehicle. Swapped it over and all faults gone. Haven’t managed to take it for a test drive yet as there is 5 tonnes of driveway gravel in front of it ( job for tomorrow )!

    P38 abs sensors ( 2001 4.0L ).

Thanks for that Flossie. Electrical diagnostics aren’t really my thang? So any ideas are gratefully recieved! Saturday afternoons are my allotted p38 time so as soon as the working week is over I will get the multimeter out and swap some sensors over to see if the fault moves around.

    P38 abs sensors ( 2001 4.0L ).

Not had time to get out and do any work on it yet. Awaiting delivery of some electrical contact cleaner and then I will get back on it again.

    P38 abs sensors ( 2001 4.0L ).

Had some time to get some readings and each of the abs sensors are reading about 980 ohms. Have checked voltage to each sensor and each one is registering 5v. Have just checked continuity from the sensor plug to the connector that plugs into the abs ecu and the readings are all constant at 1.3...

    P38 abs sensors ( 2001 4.0L ).

Any recommendations for abs sensors ( front and rear ), prices seem to range from £30 to £400? Have just replaced rear brake lines and after a test drive now have traction failure and abs lights on. Nanocom says rear sensor electrical failure rear right and sensor voltage page says no voltage...

    P38 overheating ( maybe )?

Update on the issue. Viscous fan not engaging when the engine is hot. Replaced and cooling seems a lot better ( air con fans not switching on now ). Still not sure why the temperature sensor is reading too high, but I may have a colleague at work who can help me with that? Have also ordered an...

Thanks for that. Will have a look for a sensor for the rear cylinder head!

    P38 overheating ( maybe )?

2001 4.0L reconditioned engine fitted last year ( new water pump, radiator , thermostat and hoses fitted at the same time ) and only done about 300 miles since then. Have recently noticed that when getting back home after a drive that the air con fan is running. Had a look, and the air con...

    p38 weirdness?

Glad it’s helped! Not sure that there is anyway to test the eas driver before you go and spend money on a replacement one. Occasionally you can get one cheaply on an eBay auction, or some of the p38 Facebook groups have recommended breakers that have most things at reasonable prices.

    p38 weirdness?

Took it all to pieces to check if anything was amiss and checked tubes were all in the correct place ( all seemed to be ok). Noticed that the driver looked as if it had got a bit hot at some point. Replaced with a second hand unit and eas seems to work now. Many thanks for your help.
