Freelander 1 td4 white smoke on start up

Hi! I've just been to look at a 2004 td4 manual. It was lovely but lots of white smoke on start up and slightly spluttery until warm but apart from that ran really lovely (new clutch) Its had a new fuel pump and regulator so am guessing an injector maybe? What do you think, and will It be pricey...

Freelander 1 Thermostat cover leaking td4

All my coolant is vanished and turns out the thermostat cover just at the top has a leak. Happened suddenly on way home so guess it has cracked. Its a 2001 td4 es auto. Looks like changing the stat is a biiig job but is it possible to change just the cover, what would that involve? Or any...

    Freelander 1 Buying advice welcome

Blue one is well pricey for a 2004 E (pretty basic) model. Only worth it if has 3 year warranty that actually covers everything, full service history, and has had VCU changed, and was owned by the Queen. In fact still too pricey unless absolutely immaculate. Whatever you buy, spent 500 less...

    best head light builbs

I'm using the Philips +130 bulbs, euro car parts has deals on them. They're definitely an improvement on my pre facelift FL1. My old facelift FL1 had fantastic lights and I was really disappointed when I got this car!

D(rive) not engaging, R(everse) works fine

because its not finding fault cant help thinking it's a physical selector issue, does it read "D" on the dashboard when in drive?

    Alarming .. honk honk!

If it's a very quickhonk-ette whimper noise, doesnt that mean it thinks the boot isnt closing? (If so, could it be a boot wiring issue?)

Freelander 1 ABS light and it's friends...

My update on the intermittent trio of lights. Braking hard with ABS doesnt cause the lights to come on. I have also noticed the cruise doesnt cancel immediately with pressure on the brake pedal. So looks like the switch will be the place to start

    Freelander 1 Sold my manual 2004.. should I buy a 2001 auto?

Got it. Between the pre and post facelift here's my main issues: 1) Can see the speedometer in the pre facelift one! Even with the steering wheel at it's highest, I couldn't see the top of the speedo easily in my facelift one. 2) Lights on the pre facelift are disappointing after the excellent...

    Freelander 1 changing heater knobs

Here's an odd one... I want to change over the 3 heater knobs in my pre facelift Freelander. The ones that are there are... sticky. They work fine, but it's not nice touching them! Is this a ... known issue? Think this will be an easy job? Thx!

Freelander 1 ABS light and it's friends...

Seen plenty posts on this but would be grateful for suggestions. Just bought (privately) a 2001 Freelander td4 Auto. Runs great, apart from: TC, ABS and HDC! lights: Come on at startup and will stay on if I drive forwards. If I reverse for a bit first though they go out, but come on again...

Freelander 1 Automatics: as good in the snow and what to look out for

Picked the car up. Runs great, very smooth compared to my old facelift manual! No clunks, bangs or rattles at all. VCU was changed last year, and it's amazing how free it feels compared to other's I've driven. Only thing is the ABS trio lights up sometimes... will have to do some searching...

Freelander 1 Automatics: as good in the snow and what to look out for

Lol thats hilarious! I thought there was 2 types of auto boxes fitted depending on when made! Well, if I can't tell the difference between a manual and an auto there's something wrong. (Some people already tell me there's something wrong with me if I like Freelanders this much!)

Freelander 1 Automatics: as good in the snow and what to look out for

Well... picking up a 2001 auto on Sunday. Wondering if it's a Jatco or Getrag and how to tell, and if there's any practical difference between the two for me?

    Sat nav upgrade

You could try installing one of the touchscreen double din navs - go on ebay and search for "double din gps". Plus some have reversing camera functions. You'll need an adaptor (unless your car already has a non Land Rover radio fitted) and could have the whole shebang fitted for under £150 or...

    Freelander 1 Sold my manual 2004.. should I buy a 2001 auto?

I really like the facelift model. Theres so few autos about in my budget. This is a tidy pre facelift. Hoping theres no pitfalls with the pre facelift!

    Freelander 1 Sold my manual 2004.. should I buy a 2001 auto?

Wanted an automatic. Should have bought an automatic in the 1st place... My lovely manual also needed a few £ spending, as I'm sure the next one will too!

Freelander 1 How easy and smooth should it be to engage gears

Well here's the odd thing... the more I drove the car the easier the gearchange became. Have just sold it (so I can buy an auto) and by the end it was a lovely nice smooth drive, first still occasionally a bit squidgy but engaging fine. No idea why it was so difficult before, but the car had...
