Forward facing seat arch conversion kit.

The thing that worries me about these is that the Puma forward facing seats have a tub strengthening plate bolted on the side wall under the wheel arch so I'm not convinced that these aluminium insert ones have enough strength to support the seats in the event of an accident. I have given this a...

TD5 vs TDCI A frame difference?

I did some research into this and came to the conclusion it is just the bush sizes. I bought a TDCI galvanised chassis with 300TDI engine mounts, the upper trailing arm lugs are welded to the chassis rather than bolted on like the earlier chassis so I wasn't sure if the arms from my 300TDI would...

    Strange EGR thing.

My Defender didn't have the blanking plate when I bought it and I accidentally discovered that unplugging the box under the middle seat made no difference at all. It just makes me laugh how many things you can disconnect from these trucks and they keep going. :D

A frame ball joint fulcrum bolts siezed

+1 on replacing the fulcrum with new ball joint. Recently removed the ball joint and destroyed the 5 tonne bottle jack in my press in the process, had to replaced with a 20 tonne one and even then it was a nasty job. That was after having to hacksaw half the joint plate off so you can get the...

    1998 Defender 300TDi Rebuild

Its not too bad, you do need patience but when the blasting pot isn't jammed it works really well. The end result is definitely worth the effort. Thanks Mark, that a good idea.

    1998 Defender 300TDi Rebuild

Hi ianc2051, the main piece of my set up is the blasting pot which I bought from ebay for about £65 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/38-L-10-Gallon-Pot-Bead-Shot-Portable-Sandblaster-Sand-Blaster-Blasting-Cleaning-/130427874115?hash=item1e5e1b6b43. The sand is Jblast Supafine...

    1998 Defender 300TDi Rebuild

Really good point, I assumed that would be the case so drew a diagram as I was stripping them and have put each cap in a separate bag with it's bolts and adjuster; and then labelled the bags. Thanks Al2O3, so far the only thing that is making my blood boil is my bloody blasting pot! It keeps...

    Disco axle on to 90

Which Discovery are the axles from? The older Discovery 1s have the same axles as a Defender but the Disco 2s axle's look quite different. I'm not an expert, so maybe someone else can advise better on this.

    1998 Defender 300TDi Rebuild

Since my last post I have been preparing all the suspension parts and axles ready to be galvanised but although I have been working hard, I haven't really had much to show for the effort. However I now have a nice pile of clean parts ready to send away. Last year I made a small shop press...

    Defender Suspension Bolts?

If you take a look at http://www.yrm-metal-solutions.co.uk/ they sell stainless steel bolt kits. For each kit they have for sale they list all the components for the kit so even if you don't want the expense of stainless steel you can still work out all the correct nuts and bolts you would need...

    1998 Defender 300TDi Rebuild

Recently progress on my Defender has been really slow due to there being a lot of rusty bolts that have taken a long time to remove in order to strip down the rolling chassis. In particular the M20 nylocs on the radius arms were a real b@$tard to get off! Even with a 1/2in drive breaker bar they...

    Chassis repair pieces

Hi Hoggie, Not sure if the cross member is same on the 110 as it is on a 90 but have my old 300tdi 90 chassis sitting on my driveway, I was going to cut it up tomorrow to get it scrapped but you're welcome to the cross member and brackets.

Are all A frames the same?

No problem, just thought if you didn't need them I would take them off your hands. If you do get a chance to check I would be very interested to find out if they are the same arms just different bushes.

Are all A frames the same?

Thanks Litch, thats very interesting. It suggests I may need to replace my A frame arms. I don't suppose you still have the arms you didn't use?

Are all A frames the same?

Thanks Brown, I don't know why I thought it was 2003. In that case it was probably the puma chassis.

Are all A frames the same?

Does anyone know if the A frame arms on a 300tdi are the same as the post 2003 models? On later models the upper mounts are welded to the chassis, whereas older one have mounting plates with three bolts. My galvanised chassis has the 300tdi engine mounts but the rear is the same as the post...

Does anyone want a 300tdi 90 chassis for free?

Hello, After next week I will have completely stripped my Defender 90 300tdi 1998 to the chassis as I'm rebuilding it upon a new galv one so the original chassis is surplus to requirement. If anyone near North Hampshire wants it, and can collect it, they are welcome. I don't want anything for...

I Wanted One, I Bought One, I Don't Know Why, is This Normal?

Nice looking truck you have there. There is definitely something about Defenders that is not normal, I have always wanted one despite having no real need of a 4x4. When I got mine I thought I would own it for a while and then eventually rebuild it, however I found myself obsessed thinking about...

Letter and Number Punches for Galvanised Chassis

I guess not as long as they last long enough to stamp all the required numbers, just wondered what other people have used.

Letter and Number Punches for Galvanised Chassis

Could anyone recommend where to buy a decent set of letter and number punches to stamp a chassis? There seems to be quite a lot of cheap sets out there for less than £15 and then £100 plus sets but nothing in between. I don't want a cheap sets as I'm sure they will be soft metal and not last...
