    LHD 300tdi Frankenstein's monster

I was building this beastie to send to an African mission hospital, but life has changed, we're moving house, and it has to go. It's got a Forward Control chassis, modified beyond all recognition, and mainly Discovery 300tdi running gear. It has a cab-forward layout and nine seats. As a work in...

    Green laning near Derby?

I've finally got my 4x4 on the road and reasonably sound. Anyone up for some moderate green laning in the Derby area? I've got average ground clearance but nothing compared to a lifted Disco, and no sump protection yet.

(insert hairdresser joke here) Bobtailed Audi TT

No, it's not a Land Rover. It is on Disco tyres though! My daughter wanted to learn some mechanical skills, so I bought her an A3 to break for parts; the deal was that it paid me back and she got the rest. Her profits bought her a 2001 Audi TT Quattro, so we're doing a soft-roader conversion on...

Any recommendations for transporting a vehicle?

I need to move my project truck - a 100" cab-forward thing. Needs to go from Derby to Bridgewater. Can anyone recommend a reliable transport service? Thanks in advance.

Wanted Pair of 90 bench seats with belts

Am looking to buy a pair of 2-seat rear benches with seatbelts, ideally reasonably close to Derby or Nottingham. Thankyou in advance!

Dual shocks - what does the front lower mount bolt to?

I need to make up some lower mounts to allow me to add dual shocks to my Defender front axle. I can only buy the lower brackets with the upper dual shock turrets (which I already have). I've seen plenty of eBay listings for both together, but I can't find a decent picture of what the lower...

    Fuel pipe question

Hope people don't mind me coming with yet another question - I really appreciate the guidance that this forum has given me over the past couple of years. I'm building a fuel tank, using 10mm compression fittings onto a mix of copper and stainless pipes. Naturally I need to connect this tank to...

    Window rubber seals?

My 110 side panels are leaking because the rubber seals have hardened and shrunk. The official Land Rover seal rubber costs a lot, but there are plenty of generic versions for all sorts of vehicles. Has anyone used an alternative that they can recommend? Thankyou in advance!

How far in do you push the LT230 front output shaft seal?

Plenty of walkthroughs on how to replace the front output shaft seal. None (that I can find) mention the depth to which the seal should be driven into the box. I'm guessing that means you drive it all the way in until it seats, but I really don't want to find out the hard way that I'm wrong! Can...

Wanted Defender 110 rear springs DA4279

Edit: I've now bought some. If a mod could delete this thread, I'd be grateful. I'll do it myself once I figure out how... The back of my truck is sitting too high on lifted springs. I'm after a pair of standard height Defender 110 rear springs, if anyone has any in good order? My existing...

    Britpart 110 rear springs

Hi all, Does anyone know whether the Britpart lifted rear springs for Defender 110s have the same number of coils as their standard height equivalents? I believe I've got DA4206 (+40mm) on mine. I'd like to know whether DA4279 (standard height) have the same number of coils. Thanks in advance -...

Fuel tank - how to connect it up?

I've made a big steel fuel tank. For various reasons, the pickup will be a rigid pipe running into the tank through a stainless steel access plate. How would you go about creating said pickup? It needs to pass through the plate without creating a leakage route, and on the outside of the tank it...

    Anyone got some old shocks?

Am converting my suspension to allow me to run dual shocks on my back axle. I'll be running standard shocks with 2" lifted springs, so I need to reposition the mounts. Has anyone got a set of standard shocks - two fronts and two rears - that they no longer need? Completely worn out Britparts...

    Dual shock dropper turrets?

I'm building an Africa-spec truck. I want to run twin standard shocks at each corner - standard so they can easily be sourced, and twin to avoid overheating them over punishing roads. The truck has a +2" lift. Is it possible to buy 2" dropper turrets for the front end, with dual mounts?

    Dual pin-pin rear shocks?

I'm getting to the point with my project truck where I'm ready to think about rear suspension. For shock absorber life when heavily loaded / on bad roads, I'm minded to go for dual shocks - single shocks last about six months where this truck is going. For spares availability, it would be great...

    Soft mount steering guard

Hey, I'm about to make a steering guard for my project truck. I don't want it to be any heavier than it needs to be. In an impact with a rock, the force it will experience depends on how much inertia the system has. If it's rigidly mounted, the inertia is that of the whole vehicle. If it was on...

    Crank pulley torque

The 300tdi crank pulley should be torqued to 80Nm and then another 90 degrees. I don't have a crank immobilising tool, so getting 90 degrees is a bit of a challenge. I've gone instead for "as tight as humanly possible" which by my torque wrench is 190Nm. That's a bit below the standard torque...

    Wanted - worn out swivels

Anyone got some scrap front hub swivels near Derby? I'm looking for some to make into furniture. I need four in total. Thanks in advance.

    Water pump?

Just got my 300tdi running after about four years standing. It seems good; next step is to overhaul the engine. I'm going for new timing belt with the later type pulley, and obviously new accessory drive belts too. Anyone got experience of whether the water pump suffers if left to stand? Clearly...
