P38 4.6 videoed loud banging noise when driving.

+1 on a prop shaft universal joint, get under there and give them a wiggle. When my front one went it was obvious because of the play in it...I posted a video a short while back...

Polished threads - getting the nut off

I sympathise, I've just changed both universal joints on the front prop shaft and those nuts are a b@stard, I had to take off the transfer box mounting bar to get to the rears. Stupid design! Best of luck!

    RR sport opinions

Hi all, am thinking of buying a Range Rover sport, around 2005 or 2006 and either the 4.2 supercharged or 4.4 NA engine. Has anyone any experience owning one - I really like them but am scared it's going to be very unreliable. Thanks in advance....

Yep, marked both pieces before taking it apart.

    Front propshaft failure

All done today, picked up a new UJ from local allparts for £23.00 Found the best way to undo the 4 bolts holding the front of the prop shaft on was to move the car slightly forward each time to each bolt at the bottom to loosen it, dropped the front of the prop shaft down and slid it off...

    Front propshaft failure

Thanks for the quick replies, I've also heard the UJ can also be changed without removing the prop shaft from the car? Anyone done this?

    gearbox temp error

Had a look around the sensor tonight and could not see anything obvious, connections looked clean and no signs of broken or damaged wires. Could not get the sensor itself off the cooler as the screws are siezed. Let's hope I've 'accidentally' fixed it with my investigations....

    gearbox temp error

Can anyone confirm if the message would stay on the screen if the gearbox was actually overheating?

    gearbox temp error

Hi all, just a quick question - my p38 has beeped at me twice in the last couple of days and the gearbox temperature error flashes quickly up but then disappears. If the gearbox were actually overheating should the error message stay illuminated? I hoping it's a false alarm because both times...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Brake lines were done a couple of years ago so are ok.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Put a new fuel pump in today using the 'cutting an access hatch under the rear seat' method, was surprisingly simple. Really scary how corroded the pipes on top of the original pump were, the return had a 1/2" long split in it and just fell to pieces when I tried to undo the nut.

    Heater stuck on windscreen setting

Yes I do have the book symbol, the Ac does not work so I thought that is what was causing it. I guess the distribution servo motor won't be easy to get to and check..what code readers suit the car best? Bigeeeee - does the dashboard net to come out to check the flaps operation - hope not, had...

    Heater stuck on windscreen setting

Hi all, As the title says, no matter where I set the heater controls the air is directed to the windscreen. Could it be the control box itself or a motor gone? If anyone could give me some pointers on how to diagnose the problem that would be great... Thanks in advance. ( 1998 P38 4.0l )
