Hi all, just a quick question - my p38 has beeped at me twice in the last couple of days and the gearbox temperature error flashes quickly up but then disappears. If the gearbox were actually overheating should the error message stay illuminated?
I hoping it's a false alarm because both times its been within 10 mins of setting off with a cold engine meaning it does not have time to overheat, it does not stay lit and the ATF fluid is clean and at the right level.
Also the day before the first beep I had a friend fixing the interior lights and he was poking around the under bonnet fuse box, it seems a little coincidental the car started showing the fault directly after this?
Any thoughts?

Is it definitely an overheat message?
I've got a weird fault on mine that causes the engine to cut out going down a left/right turning hill. The fault that comes up is gearbox but I'm now convinced that it's the gearbox being turned by the engine without the gearbox pump running.

Had a look around the sensor tonight and could not see anything obvious, connections looked clean and no signs of broken or damaged wires.
Could not get the sensor itself off the cooler as the screws are siezed.
Let's hope I've 'accidentally' fixed it with my investigations....

You could disconnect it. If you still get the fault then your issue is in the wiring (I'm not mentioning BECM) if the fault doesn't re-appear then you know that it's the sensor.

Unless you've cured it by poking around - you can always hope.
