    Roofrack question

I have a roof rack on mine, its adjustable width-ways - I think the D2 is slightly wider in the roof... Or it might be narrower... I don't remember, something to do with the seat configuration in the boot. Didn't notice a difference on fuel consumption, although you do get a fair bit of wind...

    Overheating problem

In my short time as a land rover TD5 owner, what I've learnt is; if you have any doubt, steer clear. Equally, it might be something simple (like low oil level perhaps...) On balance, it would be a no from me. Its enough of a gamble buying a 15 year old car that doesn't appear to have any...

    Engine type query.

I tried the tank cap, bought another which fell to bits within a couple of days. Pretty sure its not that. Thanks for the eBay link, I'll snap one of those up to confirm. Ta.

    Engine type query.

Many thanks for this. I've owned two Land Rovers (this TD5 and a pretty tragic Freelander.) I don't mind fettling, but the LR experience has not been good to date. ;-)

    Td5 - where's me water going?

Mmm... Its not much at all, certainly not a significant problem - which in terms of the Land Rover Discovery is a relative concept. As I said, I put k-seal in mine, it sort of helped but the process they recommend is not really suited to the TD5 engine if you've got back pressure. There is a...

    Td5 - where's me water going?

Only other thing is, there is a safety valve thingy in the cap, it might be faulty - allowing water to escape as vapour? Maybe? How much are you having to top it up when you do?

    Td5 - where's me water going?

Mmm... Hate reading posts like the one I'm about to make... Hopefully its something silly but... I had this, difference was, I knew there was a leak because initially I could see where it was. I did a fair bit of dithering; new rad, thermostat and pipes... Turns out I had/have back pressure in...

    Expedition roof rack

Your best bet is eBay. You can usually pick up a full length roof rack for 1-200 quid. I got mine on eBay for £160. As ever though, I ended up never using it.

    Engine type query.

Thanks folks. I'll keep an eye out for that wee pipe to confirm. Nothing quite so drastic as a melted piston or run away engine, there's just a bit of over pressure in the coolant circuit - caught it early I think. I'd rather not do the head repair but needs must. I have another couple of...

    Engine type query.

Hi folks. Quick question but difficult to couch properly for the search function so here it is. I have a 1999/2000 Discovery TD5 with a cracked head. Its currently for sale on eBay (much reduced price) but I'm considering having a bash at fixing it, I'm not completely petrified of spanners...

    ACE problem

My ACE system failed last year. Land Rover specialist removed the pump and replaced it with a pulley and shorter belt. Car is a wee bit more walllowy on uneven terrain but normal driving is unaffected. I left the roll bars as is. £140. You could replace the block (or whatever else, one of my...

    TD5 Cooling system query.

Thanks for the replies. I'll check the self tapping screws on the rad (that is a bit of a daft idea...) I think its stopped leaking, although that could be because the coolant is now mostly Radweld - which I appreciate isn't an ideal fix even if it does fix the initial problem. ;-)

ACE Amber light three fault codes ???

There is a line from the film 'Aliens' that goes a bit like: "I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure." And so it goes with ACE faults which is notoriously bad - just get rid of it. Howk the pump out and replace it with a pulley and shortened belt. My...

    TD5 Cooling system query.

That image is useful, the diagrams on RAVE with the wee arrows showing flow are hard to make out. What I can't figure out is, the arrows on the RAVE diagram aren't truly accurate, they show the flow direction coming from the rad - to the thermostat - and on through the bypass pipe, when if the...

    TD5 Cooling system query.

This is a good question. I thought it (the thermostat) was sticking and only opening when the flow reached a certain pressure. I don't know of any other car that warms up to a certain point, stays there for an unspecified time then shoots up to the proper temp. Seems to me, there is...

    TD5 Cooling system query.

Hi folks and thanks. I'll avoid the 'dreaded head gasket' chat for now. We howked it apart on Monday, the thermostat was a bit clarty with pipes bulging - it may have been partially blocked. Ordered a replacement and replaced pipes with silicon jobs I've had for a while. Also replacing the...

    TD5 Cooling system query.

Hi folks. I have a question that requires the forum's collective wisdom: I've had my disco 2000 TD5 for just over six months with what I assume has been the normal amounts of botheration, ACE thingy going arse up, injector loom disintegrating etc. But, recently, when pressing on, the car is...
