    Td4 Starter Problem

Problem sorted...the ignition switch looked ok so in the end I just bit the bullet and fitted a brand new starter motor and a brand new battery.

    Td4 Starter Problem

2002 Td4 Initially when trying to start the car it would just click until it eventually started however, after a couple of weeks it wouldn't start at all (apart from a bump start). I fitted a 'starter motor solenoid repair kit' and it started great for a fortnight until the clicking problem...

Freelnader TD4 05 Cold Bottom Hose

I realise this is an old thread but thought I'd add something in case someone with the same problem does a search. I had the same problem and as someone rightly stated earlier in the thread this is caused by the thermostat not opening and can lead to the car overheating. My car seemed to only...

    Td4 cooling fans

FINAL UPDATE problem sorted: The car eventually overheated on the motorway but once it had cooled down it allowed me to nurse it home if I kept the speed below 55mph. At that speed the fans were good enough to keep the temp gauge in the normal position. I replaced the radiator after somebody...

    Td4 cooling fans

Quick update...somebody has suggested that the problem might be a blockage in the radiator. Can anyone help me with a part number for a Td4 (manual gearbox with air-con) radiator? I'm guessing all the different freelander engines use different radiators??

    Td4 cooling fans

When I say "at speed" I just mean a run on a dual carriageway or motorway at around 70mph. I go to work on the motorway for just one short junction and I notice the fan is belting away when I pull off the motorway. This can't be right and I considered the fans being noisy but doubt thats the...

    Td4 cooling fans

Many thanks for the advice...I'll have a look at what you suggest over the next few days and let you know how I get on. The car does seem to get up to temperature very quickly though...it was less than a mile today at speeds of less than 40 mph and the needle was midway.

    Td4 cooling fans

2002 Freelander Td4 128k miles Not long had this car (have only done 250 miles) and have noticed that the cooling fans are going at full speed and it sounds like a bloody helicopter. They don't come on straight away but it mainly happens after driving at speed, even when I've only been on the...

Freelander 1 - Side Step "Brackets"

The brackets for my side steps (STC7940) have rotted away. They bolt onto the steps so does anyone know if these can be purchased separately and if so where from? I know there is a fitting kit available but that just contains the bolts and rivnuts. I must be honest as I haven't checked with a...

    Front Bumper

Thanks...I've just been looking at some cars on ebay and the two short vertical uprights either side of the grill (above the number plate) on the 1998 bumper appear wider compared to a 2002 bumper but I don't know if my eyes are playing tricks??? EDIT: the bumpers are definitely...

    Front Bumper

I need to replace the front bumper on my 2002 Td4 as it's damaged. I understand that from 2004 onwards it's a facelift model and the headlights would also have to be replaced with the bumper if I went down that route. I can get a 1998 bumper free of charge but don't want to fit it if there...

    Brakes question

Thanks fellas I'll do as you suggest. Why do you think that only the n/s inner pad wore to the metal but there was plenty of life on the outer pad, also plenty of life on both o/s pads? What purpose do the springs on the retaining pins serve?

    Brakes question

Hi Just bought myself a 1996 Discovery Tdi ES that needs a bit of tidying up. I bought new discs and pads all around. When I removed the n/s front I noticed the inside pad had worn down completely to the metal but the outer pad still had plenty of life in it. Anyway I changed the disc and...
