Cold starting issues - new build rover 3.5v8

Is it cranking over fast? When cranking whats the voltage at the coil and ignition module? To me it points to either not cranking fast enough or a big voltage drop at the coil / ignition when cranking, this would be exasperted in cold weather when the oil is thicker and the battery is working...

Series 2 Bit concerned about Brit Part swivels - any recent experiences

There was a company a while back selling Teflon coated swivels for Series Landys, I don't know if they are still in existence or if the Teflon coating was any more rust resistant that a normal swivel. In a previous job for marine use components we got parts coated in 4 layers, Nickel, Copper...

Series 2 Bit concerned about Brit Part swivels - any recent experiences

I fitted Britpart swivels as their complete kit about 10 years ago to my S3, still going strong now.

JUST a little bit tighter AAAnnnd ... CRACK?! (Oh dear)

Looking at your pictures it could be that the casting has been cracked for a while hence your oil leak, and that final tightening could have caused the final breaking off of the casting. It can be welded back into place by any competent TIG welder, and is what I would be doing if it was mine.

Is it difficult to get conversion approved by DVLA?

It wasn't so easy for me, I changed from a 3.5V8 that died to a 3.9 V8 (much easier to get) and the DVLA then wanted an official receipt from a garage for the engine, or a garage report on the engine number and cc, or a VOSA inspection. The DVLA will not just accept a change in CC of the engine...

    Spray-paint gear

For 3 doors it's not worth it. I'd get a quote for the job, then compare it against the cost of a decent capacity compressor, spray gun, air line, da sander, sand paper, panel wipe, thinners, primer, top coat, masking tape, and a face mask. Aerosol cans plus all consumables listed above are the...

bfg muds VS cooper STT for mileage/longevity - yes another fecking tyre thread! :)

I run Toyo Open Country M/T 235-85-R16 on mine, exactly the same tread pattern as Cooper STT but lower cost and I feel better quality. I've put about 20K on them so far and there's loads of tread left, I would think these are good for 40-50K easy.

    series V8 adapter

I guess with LT77 + V8 you'll be having to fit a defender front end? The LT77 and R380 (even with stubby bell-housing) are 100mm longer than a series box so with an 88" series, the rear prop-shaft is to short to take 100mm out, so you have to move everything forward 100mm, this means no more...

V8 ignition and fuel timing non dizzy type

Thanks, I guessed it would be that simple. I now need to add a cam sensor.

    Which belt(s) do I need?

They are I believe 10mm width so all you need to do is run a bit of string around the route the belt takes with the tensioner fully compressed then measure the string and there is your part number give or take 5mm.

V8 ignition and fuel timing non dizzy type

Hi folks, as per the title on a later V8 without a distributor where does the ignition and fuel injection signal come from on the engine? I'm guessing it's using a crank sensor, and therefore wasted spark and just pulsing left and right injector banks alternately. Or is it a bit more clever and...

    Pressure washers?

I think this is the best plan, 1350BHP V12 Cummins powered 7000psi out of a 4" pipe :) Found it while touring Peterbilt dealers in Pennsylvania

    Propane Injection?

I stated in that sentence "but these are a one way conversion", you seem to have made an assumption this is still a compression ignition engine. Sorry for the confusion, when converting a Diesel to full time LPG, the injector is removed and a spark plug installed assuming that there is enough...

    Propane Injection?

Where did I say you can run a standard Diesel on pure LPG alone?

    Propane Injection?

When you buy it at an LPG station it's far cheaper, ~60p a litre, orange bottle are an expensive way to get Propane. Also a 3.5mm carbon-steel gas tank is a lot safer than a 1.5mm mild steel or plastic petrol tank that everyone seems to accept. Petrol is also faster buring! Coal dust is very...

    Propane Injection?

An interesting post , there also seems to be a lot of urban myth and hearsay floating around. Some of the buses around here (deepest Somerset) run on LPG and have done for years, but these are a one way conversion, and LPG is then the only fuel they can use. Where does the DVLA state that...

    choosing paint

I sprayed mine at the beginning of this year, I used enamel from Paddocks, they sell HGM brand paint, it produced a great finish. Cost is about £12 a litre, but add to that thinners and primer / etch prime and your looking at around £300 to spray a complete 88" Landy, if memory serves me right I...

lidl battery charger with jump start

Bought one last night, its a heavy lump, but works a treat, and give a volts as well as % reading during charge, there is also a setting for Gel Cells. Considering the average battery charger is the same money without half the features this has I'd say it's a dam good purchase, even if you...
