Does anyone have any recommendations for a cheap spray-painting kit? I have to paint three doors on my Defender, so it's too much for cans, but not worth my while buying a proper set-up.

Automotive paint place will put paint in aerosols a lot cheaper than branded ones, assuming you buy the paint from them.
Think you will scuff pads and tack cloths and panel wipe whatever way you go.

For 3 doors it's not worth it. I'd get a quote for the job, then compare it against the cost of a decent capacity compressor, spray gun, air line, da sander, sand paper, panel wipe, thinners, primer, top coat, masking tape, and a face mask. Aerosol cans plus all consumables listed above are the only viable option, even then adding your time into this it's a close run thing between paying someone to do the job.

The problem you have is, when you have painted three doors and fitted them, the rest will look tired so you may wish to paint some more. At which point you will regret buying cheap equipment or paying somebody else.
