Dryer in Freelander 1 Aircon System?

Thank you, I'll get one in ready.

Dryer in Freelander 1 Aircon System?

2006 112bhp TD4: Is there a dryer in the aircon system? There is something connected to pipes going up behind the RHS headlamp but I cannot see what it is and no manual diagrams show it. One internet site states that it only guarantees compressors if the dryer is replaced at the same time which...

    Freelander 1 Tow bar fitting

Just seen this thread, I used a tap and flat spanner and just cleared enough to get bolts in. One, however, did not comply so it has a long, thinner bolt right through.

    Steering pump hoses

Thank you, I'm surprised I didn't notice before, it's certainly softer than the parallel hose.

    Unhappy Diff = Sad owner

£420 inclusive for the gearbox. All the 7 various fitted from the same recon. firm have been good apparently so just parted with the money for a good specimen of the original freelander.

    Steering pump hoses

I could also try some cable spiral binding, bit like a stent for humans!

    Steering pump hoses

The steering has always been a little heavy but recently one of the fluid hoses has gone strangely flat:Should I worry, it doesn't feel flabby or anything?

    Unhappy Diff = Sad owner

I'll reply to me own last post....It wasn't the usual suspects but the gearbox proper with a bearing gone which I was shown. Back together with a recon (guaranteed), new clutch and flywheel. Strangely quiet and no longer hard to select gears when hot, 'twas a pig before. Having past experience...

    Unhappy Diff = Sad owner

No, that makes it more expensive.

    Unhappy Diff = Sad owner

I have a whine too from the front, worst at 55-60mph, which arrived quite rapidly. My usual service garage has had a stethoscope on it and said it was from the gearbox but I asked them to disconnect the propshaft to see if the noise stopped. I'm not entirely convinced a stethoscope test is...

    HELP with my HORN...pleeeeease!!!

The TD4 rotary coupler seems to have 4 pairs of flexible connections, possibly via printed circuits. One pair will be your driver's airbag, another pair the horn switches, leaving a pair for audio remote control (which I've never used) and the final pair for the cruise control (which may not be...

What tyres do you have on your freelander

Report on Falken Landair AT after some years of use: These show little wear and grip well in snow but, this summer with road surfaces being at egg-frying temperature, they become a little soft and I have to take it easy on bends to avoid too much lurch and difficult steering.

Freelander 1 Unable to refill air-con system

It's been "sucked" and dried, there was 90gms left but clearly not enough and, having omitted this wet spring to run it at all, it's working better than ever. Mea Culpa!

Freelander 1 Unable to refill air-con system

I am taking it to my usual service place, it's certainly not overfilled and they have a system to detect obvious leaks.

Freelander 1 Unable to refill air-con system

I have 2 decent cylinders of R134a refrigerant and what appears to be the correct adaptor &c but can't introduce anything into the a.c. system through the low pressure side. The compressor doesn't run now so suspect the refrigerant is empty. Shouldn't I be able to introduce enough coolant to...

    Small housing on dashboard.

Thank you all, so it was switches then. I'll go ahead and mount the little display there then and perhaps I can squeeze in a phone holder.

    Small housing on dashboard.

2006 TD4. Looking for somewhere to house a small digital display for an external thermometer I spotted this space on the dashboard panel, to the right and below the steering column. It had a black ABS moulding (which I prised off) buttoned into another ABS moulding crudely screwed onto the...

What tyres do you have on your freelander

Being somewhat impecunious I have Falken LandAir AT which grip well and are hard wearing.

    tow bar

I had to run a 10mm tap through the captive threads on the LHS, they would not accept any bolts otherwise, the threads being full of rust and crap. If you have to do this, don't use those cheap "carbon steel" taps as many of them are not even the right diameter. Fitting a 10mm nut will show if...

    Everything-in-the-Universe Engineer

Following the second rusting away of my faithful Montego Estate I still have this fetish for buying British-made cars, always the original BL marques. I couldn't find anything until I spotted this 2001 Forester going cheap (a few dents and scratches) and sitting in it seemed familiar from the...
