Disco 2 Central locking intermittently won't lock with fob, always unlocks

Thanks, so is it an entire actuator assembly that needs replacing?

Disco 2 Central locking intermittently won't lock with fob, always unlocks

I've got an occasional problem with central locking. When it happens, the lock button on the key (either of two keys) won't work. I can reach in and lock with the button on the dash, then shut the drivers door and lock with the key. Unlocking always works fine (with both keys). Once it's been...

    Fobbed Off! Which replacement receiver?!

Not surprised, without a solder reflow station it would be very hard to get it off without destroying the contents. That's why I suggested cutting ;) Well done! The box isn't part of the circuit but is shielding to stop noise and interference from getting in where it shouldn't. It's usually...

    Fobbed Off! Which replacement receiver?!

If you've got PCB cleaner in the house and an otherwise busted receiver, you can go one step further... I carefully cut off the screening can along 3 sides, folded it back and cleaned out all the corrosion under it with a toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol, then soldered the 3 sides back down...

2001 disco 2 heated rear screen not working

I had this problem, with a very hard to track down cause! The plate in the tailgate which attaches the hinge to the door had been removed (or loosened) and then refitted with the rear screen heater wire crimped underneath it. In my case, that meant I could replace a fuse, it would all work...

    harman kardon front speakers

I'll stick by what I said when you asked in June :) http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/ice-upgrades-1999-td5-260081.html Hope that helps. Again ;)

How much oil is too much?

:) I couldn't pluck up the courage to drain it from the sump, and had a holiday trip coming up before I read the surge of "it'll be fine" posts, so I started with plan A - siphoning A few metres of oxygen tubing down the dipstick hole siphoned 1/3 litre out perfectly, it's now sitting on the...

New owner with a couple of questions

Sounds reasonable. I'm usually getting 23-24mpg on a TD5. Most recent fill- 83 litres, 430 miles. Most of that was loaded up for family holiday, 5 people + luggage inside, 3 bikes on towball mount, 2 more on roof rack, mostly 60mph on A roads with 100miles on dual carriageway @ 70mph

How much oil is too much?

Thanks all (for the helpful suggestions, the encouragement and the richly-deserved 'do it right next time's)! If syphoning doesn't work I'll start with the 'high up' solutions least likely to dump 7.5 litres of oil. 7.5, you say, not 7.2? Yes, 7.5, because, although I had looked at RAVE first...

How much oil is too much?

I've just done my first Landy oil change, and it mostly went well, but I have overfilled it a bit... I put in a full 5l, then 1l from the next bottle, and ran it as recommended at www.discovery2.co.uk / Oil and Filter change (brilliant guide, really clear!). Then, I clearly added a bit too...

is there a trick to Exhaust nuts?

I bought a Metrinch set Metrinch-tools - IF THIS CAN'T DO IT, NO TOOL CAN 15 years ago and can't recommend them highly enough. They've got me out of a lot of scrapes, as well as avoiding the 'is it metric or imperial' dilemna. If it fits it's the right size! One day, I might splash out on the...

Dave's new mota - ICE problem

Sorry, I can't see images due to blocking restrictions here, but if you don't have the amp under the seat, you won't get any sound out. I've got a '98 with HK system, have removed the head unit and use the amplifiers on their own (currently fed from an iPhone... work in progress), and they are...

    Rear quarter window replacement

Isn't 'sawing' with piano wire / welding wire the normal way? I've not done it, but read up on it when expecting to have to replace a window. e.g. see http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Window_removal_and_installation

TD5 code reader - which one?

I would be up for that, as I'm planning to buy one shortly, I've just had an unexpectedly straightforward MoT :)

    Roof bar recommendations

I've got the D3D-B63 Rhino bars, really solid and would happily recommend them. Mine came from https://van.roofracks.co.uk/landrover-discovery-1-and-2-van-roof-rack-rhino-d3d_b63-69/ and I have no complaints about their pricing or service either. They were simple to fit and are really solid...

    Recommendation for D2 owners

Mine was the same. A sunroof leak into the rooflining which wet the receiver, exact same symptoms. I also noticed that the red LED on the key kept flashing when I got in and tried to start, while the immobiliser kept asking it to transmit (it uses the same receiver) Does your sounder ever...

    landy wont lock

Mine did that, sunroofs were leaking and the receiver was wet (not helped by previous owner putting it in a plastic bag to keep it dry, but the bag was open at the top so was full of water  ) When you put the key in and turn it, the LED flashes while the key transmits to the receiver...

    ice upgrades for a 1999 td5

I think the HK ones are all '4 ohm' speakers. DC resistance (measured on a multimeter) will vary by an ohm or two, but almost all speakers are 4 ohm or 8 ohm, so just for the closest replacement if there is no spec.

    ice upgrades for a 1999 td5

For the subs in the boot, I just got a standard driver of the right size and with the same fixing points from CPC CPC | CPC - Over 100, 000 products from one of the worlds leading distributors of electronic and related products. which works fine. If you're paranoid, replace both at the same...

    Windscreen top seal replacement?

Thanks all for the suggestions, and the part number. In summary, I'll see what the paint shop can do, and be prepared to splash out on a new top seal if it can't be neatly refitted to get a good seal. I'm hoping the bodywork repairs will also stop the remaining water leak into the driver...
