I am after some roof bars for my Discovery 2, it has the short factory fitted ones but as I want to put a kayak on the roof they are not going to work very well.

I do not want a full roof rack, it looks like it has to be some that fit to the gutters. Will these damage the gutter and encourage (not that it takes much!) the body to rust?

Does any one have any recommendations of ones they have used?

The car is a year 2000 model.

hi, I`ve got the same problem,direct4x4 do a 3 bar rack for£65 and I`m sure plastic or rubber gutter protectors,BUT they are waiting on the ma ufacturer, rhino bars are around £150,so its a no brainer,i`m waiting for them to call me when they are in stock.

I have these Thule ones fitted to mine with gutter protectors. The receipt says they were £137

Haha, mine was already fitted with them so I didn't have to pay for them! Tbh I think they look awful and was going to take them off but I've been convinced to keep them for things like my boat oars.

I was thinking about it, but I'm afraid you have to thank a couple of my mates for talking me out of it!

I've got the D3D-B63 Rhino bars, really solid and would happily recommend them. Mine came from https://van.roofracks.co.uk/landrover-discovery-1-and-2-van-roof-rack-rhino-d3d_b63-69/ and I have no complaints about their pricing or service either.

They were simple to fit and are really solid, it looks like you could lift the Landy with them :). They have pads to protect the gutter rim from metal to metal contact.

My only problem has been with a cycle carrier which struggled with the 45mm thickness of the bars, it did fit but only just!

Thanks guys, I will have a look at the links.

Has any fitted the factory extensions? I take it I would have to drill the roof?
