    large oil leak

 just spent the afternoon on the hard shoulder of the M8, wife's P38 - burning oil smell, sluggish/misbehaving gearbox. Pulled up and waved the 'subaru cloud' of oil smoke out the way - sure enough a fair amount of oil coming from in front of the transfer/gearbox, can't see exactly where...

ok - EAS - what have I missed?

I've very mixed feelings about Rimmers having had some dubious quality bits from them in the past, When I called them they said they didn't have them in stock, - I interpret this as either they didn't or the guy on the phone couldn't be arsed checking. either way they were little help. I...

ok - EAS - what have I missed?

BTW - I had a hell of a problem sourcing new collets - ended up with a 2 week wait from Craddocks who told me that there was an issue with supply at Land Rover, We use air compression in our business and have several specialists who supply to us. I'm going to see if we can source these from our...

ok - EAS - what have I missed?

Keith, Wammers Thanks for all your help and assistance. I waited until the weather got better, replaced ALL the collets and re ran the programme and it now works a treat. Looks like we had 2 weeping collets which was causing the pump to work too hard and this knackered the piston seal. I...

anyone got a spare coil (Edinburgh)

Help! my coil's knackered and I need the 109 tomorrow for work. Has anyone got a good one in Lothian/Fife/Borders they would be happy to swap for beer, wine, spondoolax? Failing that - do you suppose a coil from a Triumph 2000 might (6 cyl 2.0lt)? I don't see why not - all BL at the end...

ok - EAS - what have I missed?

yes, Green Good thanks keith well i checked the compressor - it's OK, I fixed a weeping collet from the diagphram end. at this point the flippin battery decided to give up the ghost (it's been sat for a few weeks whilst I was waiting for the collets) so until it recharges I won't know what the...

ok - EAS - what have I missed?

Thanks folks, Keith, from the PDF instructions the disconnect I've been following is thus: "Once the Rx buffer is responding with the correct "FF" sequence, you are ready to proceed. Press the Unlock button and wait until the command is sent and the buffer again responds with the "FF"...

ok - EAS - what have I missed?

The ongoing saga of the EAS. I eventually got time to plug in the new cable and hook it up to the laptop. Just to recap - EAS went into soft fault then hard fault. I replaced the block seals and the compressor seals and piston seals. Here's what happened - Plug in serial cable into...

My business is currently engaged in delivering a project at a site 250 miles from our base. due to a comedy of errors and the recent closure of the DVLA office in Edinburgh our recently purchased Discovery is off the road until a new V5 arrives (estimated 6 weeks) thanks Cameron, great idea...

    Cheap Series

endorsement indeed! if it were a diesel I'd buy it for work (we can use diesel at the oil and gas refineries - petrol is a nono)

    rear propeller shaft vanishes!

well, Mark's Garage in Wallyford, east Lothian is fantastic, Mark and Jude were very helpful indeed and Mark took a prop shaft off one of his series 3s So I spent Saturday morning under the truck and removed the left over parts of the old prop shaft, I noticed that the studs in the transmission...

    New toy coming!

yeah, price wise they seem quite reasonable, is there a make to avoid. Stainless exhausts are a pain if they don;t fit properly. I really struggled with one for my Triumph 2000 from a well known seller of parts who's name may or may not suggest unhygienic practices with the tounge

    Heated Windscreens...

I tend to wear specs when driving so at night everything's got a flippin halo! at the moment though I am thankful for the heated screen, the 88 doesn't have one and there is a lot more swearing in the mornings!

    Urgently need EAS Collets (6mm)

evening all, have now rebuilt Mrs's valve block and compressor (the piston seal was borked). I've got Datatek's cable and software however, I am missing 2 important parts, namely the 6mm collets that hold the wider pipes into the valve block. The other, brass ones, are all in good condition but...

    Heated Windscreens...

I've got one in the 109, it's great no complaints re fuzzyness at night BUT for it to work properly you have to make sure the front vents are firmly closed.

    Please Help

I do agree that the fault will almost certainly be EGR related, my approach is belt and braces really and likely overkill but it does improve performance etc, especially changing the fuel filter and cleaning out the manifold. I saw one on a Mondeo recently that was 70% clogged!:D

    New toy coming!

righty dokey, collected it on Sunday and have been using as a daily since. Initial thoughts - considerably more civilised than the 88 diesel, not sure why vendor though it was a B series, it's the standard petrol lamp for this vehicle although Mark at Mark's Garage in East Lothian pointed out...
