    Help please

Back on topic again... I had a similar problem years back at the turn of the millenium. the symptoms were identical. It turned out to be the needle roller bearing, sometimes known as nose bearing in the middle of the flywheel. It had broken up and the needles were making the input shaft drag...

    Cannot get car open

very true and sensible advice ratty. XJS didn't have airbags, and for some reason the sensors were always live. however i was just building up to the 'discovery rotten floor' quip.

    Cannot get car open

I dont know if this model has knock sensors anywhere. Might be of interest to note that on an old XJS there's a sensor in the sill. If you tap the underside, about the midway along the door with a lump hammer, the car thinks it's in a crash and unlocks all the doors so you can be rescued. ...i...

Some people! how does he expect to sell it

I would say that the main problem with the number plate is the angle of viewing. It's a bit skyward. It is not readable from a distance of 25 meters at a normal drivers, or pedestrians line of sight. i got a telling off (though no ticket) for having a number plate in the "mouth" of the front...

    Cannot get car open

Do you have a 7 pin towing electrics connctor with white cap? theres a constant live +12v (pin4) and a Ground (pin3) there. put a thick nail in the two requisit holes and croc-clip a charger to them, that'll give you enough juice to power the locks. For 13pin euro connectors you want pin9...

    Sat nav coordinates

You could try a Municipal Awareness Parchment. or MAP for short. Apparently Ordnance Survey provide these scientific devices very cheaply. Available in all good bookshops. There's a very useful thread on "how to find greenlanes". After reading it, i got my local Landranger map and in 30minutes I...

The Torbay excursion. 27th July 2013.

I live just across the Exe. 27th rings a bell for some reason so have to look if i'm busy. If not, I'd be able to pop over if you need to make up the numbers.

Where have you been in your Land Rover today?

Trip to Crediton to pick up a lil 6x3 trailer. turns out the tractor wheels on it have a compatible stud size so will stick some landy rims on it make it look better.:D out of interest, on the way i saw a defender by the roadside with hazards on at cowley bridge. so thought i should turn round...

    Exhaust back box advice

Does anyone know the part number for the back box of a 300TDI system? I would look myself but i seem to have misplaced mine. Last seen in my mirror, tumbling end-over-end along the A38 just south of Exeter. Probably need to replace it from the joint behind the mid box. also, any ideas on...

How much can a Disco pull?

Traction shouldn't be a problem, I have a set of Grabber UHP road tyres on it At the mo, but have a part worn set of Grabber AT2 and a new set of Kingpin Amazon if needed. thinking about it, i think it'll be either wheelspin on the grass or overheating the torque converter that'll put pay to...

How much can a Disco pull?

Just wondering, using a 97 Disco 300tdi auto, witter universal jaw/pin/ball hitch. If i put a chain on the pin and attach it to something without wheels, ie ploughs, harrows, etc. what weight can the disco pull/drag? anyone know what weight Red devon soil is and how much extra weight it would...

    Snorkel. Are you backwards?

my disco has a small hole in the bottom of the airbox. is that normal? been thinking about a snorkel myself but wondered, if there's a hole in the airbox it'll pour in anyway. Didn't have much hassle today in Sidmouth ford though. It was surprisingly good for the time of year. Went through...

    trailer help pls

Does it roll? Try a towing A-frame? They do tow well on the frame, infact i've not found a vehicle (with all wheels attached) that didn't pull well and being legally "a trailer" it can stay SORN. yes, I've even pulled a Reliant Rialto. Too far for me to do it tho. Buy one? Borrow one? You can...

    Fast and Furious 6

All the Fast & furious series is just fanciful teenagers wet-dreams. Totally unrealistic. I've had a tooled up Mazda Rx-7 FD3S since before the first film came out, and sure, i've done 170mph+ on public roads. looks faster in the films cos they adjust the framerate. last time i watched one...

Crazy landy ideas -- #37 Twin wheels

now that looks cool, but 2 questions. 1) surely 2 thin tyres isn't as good as 1 fat one? 2) how do you get the inner beads to seal?

    Bushwires

It's a private lane, only my access. No other right of way except for one other field, and the farmer uses another field of his to get to it. As I dont want pikeys snooping around smashing their way into things and lifting stuff, i see no reason to make the lane more accessible than it is. For...
