    Chassis suspension bushes.

look at the photo, the top left is the offside chassis bush, it was a proper b1tch, I bashed it with a selection of hammers for an hour to get it out. If you drill out the rubber like you say, bash out the centre tube, then get a hacksaw take the blade out, put it through the hole, then put...

    Why won't it start?

You need a special low resistance meter to measure battery cables as being thick cables the resistance is low, a visual inspection usually tells you a lot. The jump lead trick is a good start, and you caould also try jamming a screwdriver accross the solenoid, allthough being a diesel this...

    who of roads

The boss told me I couldnt bring my landy to work as it makes the car park look a mess. Cant wait to get it finished I'll use it for work all the time. I deliberately use my rat trike for work, looks like summat of scrapheap challenge, and its parked right next to reception.

    Chassis suspension bushes.

Depends on your springs, originals and good quality ones are handed, drivers side being stiffer as its heavier on that side. Otherwise you'll list to the drivers side. You've not got sides mixed up by any chance? And your correct I put the bolts in lower the vehicle then reach round and...

    Disco axles.

How did you sort the steering without spacers Jonno?, did you make a special track rod or summat. I agree the pictured axle mount looks a little flimsy, if I decide to go the welded bracket route it will be a lot more substantial. Did the drill jig, looks ok, was a bit of a bugger sawing...

    Disco axles.

Yep your probably right about the unimog axles, only I'm more willing to play than pay so I have poxy defender ones. I hope noone minds I nicked this pic of another site, but this doesnt look so hard to fab, and is gonna be as strong as a U bolt if done reet. Like the idea about the...

    Disco axles.

Dont know much about para's, they look a lot flimsier than the leafs on my 109, they are serious looking. I was wondering about A4 stainless as it has an equivalent tensile strength of 8.8, however I think your right there smithy EN8 is probably better as it has a more suitable yield, kinda...

    Quick welding q

Another trick you can try is move the earth, you can weld towards it or away from it, a bit trick with tube I spose, try earthing one tube then weld more on the other one, forcing the weld current accross the join. On occaision you can get arc blow, happens more with inverter welders, welding...

    Disco axles.

Jonno / Smithy / anyone with comments, What did you use for the U bolts on the disco front axle, I was thinking of making some from mild steel 12mm bar, but then thinking this might not be good enough as the originals are probably high tensile, I thought maybe stainless. Craddocks flog U...

    Chassis suspension bushes.

I had made a jig but wish I'd never bothered effing things. Cut the rubber with a holesaw, got the centre out, cut the outer in 4 places with shark saw, tw@tted the hell out of the shell and so far just got a load of twisted rusty steel in the hole, no effing way does it want to go, gonna...

    Parabolic springs

I've just taken the bushes out of my leafs, pressed them out, a couple wouldnt budge, some bright spark welded them in. I'm contemplating removing the chassis bushes as I have a new set. I used a 7/8" socket with the press to shove the bushes out of the springs and they came out undamaged, I...

    Quick welding q

Sounds like your gassing up. Are you using good quality rods, and the right type general purpose. Crap around the weld can cause that problem, or galv plating, grind up the area first with a sand disc. Maybe try a test weld on summat else to see if it does it.

    Started my 200tdi conversion today

Not bothered about the cold, so long as its not wet or windy. I have 1986 defender axles on mine, dunno what spec they are apart from 3.54 diffs, they'll probaby cope with the 300tdi better than the series ones though.

    Chassis suspension bushes.

After removing my suspension leafs I stripped out the bushes, one side pressed out ok, t'other was a bar steward and nearly broke mi press till I realised some kcirp had welded them in on one side. Anyway I have a full set of bushes, should I try and get the ones out of the front chassis, are...

    Started my 200tdi conversion today

To split hairs power isnt the issue its torque, the v8 will make more power than the diesel but at higher revs, therefore less torque so the 'box can take it, the 200tdi with the turbo produces loads of torque, in excess of what the box can take, its a matter of being aware what rpms the tdi...

I've got a couple, I'd rather flog em with the axles, but if you've got a rear prop for a LWB 2a I'm interested.

    I've bought a what?

Guess who I'm calling when mine is due. On the other hand mi little punto insurance has nearly doubled, there was so many claims last year with the snow for this postcode a lot of firms have pulled out of insuring vehicles in this area, or so the broker tells me for mi little fiat, I'm hoping...

    electric fans, worth it?

I'm sure I've mentioned this before on other threads, the old VW passat has the thermostat for the rad fan inline on the top hose, a nice easy fit to have the fan auto.
