    Accessory Socket Wiring

Standard cigar lighter sockets are usually rated at around 16 amps. The wiring itself will be rated at something over 10 amp, but probably not too far over 10amp. The whole thing is protected by a 10 amp fuse. Provided its wired correctly, your new inline fuse won't accomplish anything, as it's...

    Fuses blowing

I used to have a problem that my indicator and gauges fuse would blow. It turns out to be rain filling up one of the left hand indicators. So it wasnt consistent, it would only happen after it had rained for a while and I turned left. Could your stop and tail light have the same problem...

    cable size for main earth

I think two earths back to the battery is normal. One from the chassis near the battery tray the other to the stud on the gearbox next to that. Auto electrical supplies will sell battery cable by the meter. I used 25mm2 for wiring up my split charge and making jump leads via Anderson...

How the heck did this happen?

Mine did that when I first got it. Both sides within a couple of weeks. I think after one side had gone, the crack in the other one didn't stand much of a chance. Bloody scary to drive when they had both gone though. It's really bouncy and dodgy under braking. Luckily the brackets were cheap to...

    Battery terminal clamps

Have you considered getting a second battery and split charging it?

How did he do that with the front!

Lots of people in the hot ridding scene flip front their motors. It's especially common on sit up and beg ford pops. Think id want some bonnet pins or something holding the bonnet down though. That looks like its a couple of ratchet strap mechanisms bolted to it.

    lock stop adgustment

That job is sooo much easier to do with two people. I did it on my own once after replacing my wheels, had to tie a strap to the steering wheel and hang it out the window so I could pull it to full lock whilst underneath. Pain the the backside it was. Btw, mine were 19mm also. In fact, I...

    Slow starter

You mean it doesnt turn at all? I.e. the solenoid throws, but then doesn't turn. If so, I'd say your new starter is a dud. If the starter does turn the engine reliably but doesn't start, then check your red wire also. Of course it could need a bit more heat because it's so friggin cold (poxy...

    fuel lift pump

I've used Redex, but prefer diesel magic. Halfords sell both, but your local petrol garage probably only does Redex if they do it at all.

    Current leakage

Completely agree. A quarter of an amp will kill your battery to the point of not starting your engine quite quickly. Ideally an off radio will draw less than 5micro amps. All it should be doing is keeping its internal RAM alive.

    fuel lift pump

Any other symptoms? E.g Is it blowing a load of smoke out the back? Does it only happen after periods of high load/speed? Is it related to how much fuel you have in the tank? I.e. only when it's nearly empty or only when it's nearly full? Have you tried any diesel injector cleaner like Redex...

    fuel lift pump

Not entirely sure how much oil you'd expect to see there, but I'd expect a little oil to be on those moving parts. Change your fuel filter also. I recently had very similar power loss problems with my 300tdi. Changed the fuel filer and it was back to normal.

    Battery drain, battery relay?

Don't leave it too long once they turn up. Squashing those wires between a couple of washers won't be a very secure connection. I they work loose through vibration and are taking a large current, they may arc as they come back off. What you've done really is a 'get you home' fix, and should be...

    Battery drain, battery relay?

Feckin ell. I suggest you disconnect your battery immediately. Then trace those wires before connecting them to anything. They look like red wires to me, which usually would be live, not earth.

    Chequered Plate

Wherever you get them from, things to watch out for are: Puma wingtops are a different size and shape to older defenders. They might look the same, but when you put them side by side there is a clear difference. So make sure you order them for the right vehicle or they won't fit. Also, decide...

    Battery drain, battery relay?

I cant actually see a relay in your picture, but I'd say no. Chances are you have other problems also, when the winch is connected. You can test the draining effect of that wood on its own. Disconnect your battery live entirely before doing this test (otherwise you might well kill your meter)...

    Battery drain, battery relay?

I can't help noticing from your picture that you have a lump of soggy wood connecting your dodgy looking battery live to your body work. That in itself will drain your battery. What don't you replace it with a fused distribution board. I used one of these in mine for my second battery and...

    Split charge system battery drain

No, you need to measure current draw and not voltage. You have two ways of doing this 1. You need to stick your current meter (aka ammeter) in series with your battery to see how much current is being drawn with everything off. As you are draining your battery, you'd expect to see some...

    Split charge system battery drain

Assuming youve wired it up right, sounds like you're gonna have to stick the ammeter on it and start pulling fuses to see what's draining it. Is it both batteries that's draining? What have you got wired off the second battery?

Slight loss of power - any suggestions?

Will do. Haven't noticed any black smoke, although its me that's driving, so if it was just a little bit I probably wouldn't see it. Fuel filter, darn. I didn't change that at last service. Did everything else but I think the new fuel filter is still in the garage.
