    Overheat Update!!

Are the viscous couplings and fan interchangeable between engines, ie, does a viscous fan unit from a 4.0 and 4.6 petrol fit the diesel 2.5, because they all look similar but the diesel ones are much more expensive? Cheers

    Overheat Update!!

Is it necessary to fix the viscous fan or can I just use additional double electric fans wired to a switch on the front of the radiator to help it along. or does it have a secondary purpose. Radiator is only a year old or so, but will try flushing it and refreshing coolant when I get chance...

1996 2.5 DSE auto Right, thanks all for the advice given, great help. I have since sorted the small leak I had BUT..... I have since done a lot of research and have realised my car NEVER, and I mean never no matter how much thrashing or driving, overheats under normal driving. But as soon as...

    P38 or L322?

My opinion is dont spend it on a P38 unless you want a comfy off roader, they are fast becoming an old car, they are getting very worn out, and have lots and lots of problems, I should know, I bought mine seemingly in a very good condition, had lots of new bits, and parts, but has had endless...

    Head gasket?

Cheers for advice, In the back of my mind I knew it probably was a head gasket, luckily its been parked up for the last week so hopefully hasnt done any more damage, does anyone know if there is a technical term for a SNIFF test kit, and where I can buy one, tried halfrauds and local motorsave...

    Head gasket?

Another question. Can the head gasket be failing if there is no water/coolant in the oil at all? And there is a leak of water/coolant from what appears the top of the block when the engine hasnt been run and is stationary? My car never over heats on short journeys, and as long as I top up the...

    Coolant leak - free beer

Damn, so looks like a head gasket then, has anyone had a head gasket done at a garage? did the head have to be skimmed as well? and what did it cost? Would have a go myself but if it needs skimming then its not worth the hassle of getting it wrong. If its not too much I'll get it fixed...

    Coolant leak - free beer

Looks like I'll be getting shut then, too many problems with this 2 ton pain in the arse, seems to be a money pit since I got it, and that was only a month ago  Dont really see any point throwing more money at it when Im only after a work horse, (and have always wanted a defender really :D)

    Coolant leak - free beer

But would it leak when the car hasnt been run and is stationary? Also the cooland level is currently at about 1/4 and it still seems to leak. Cheers

    Coolant leak - free beer

Right so I tried to locate the source of my leaking, it leaks coolant/water down the left side of the gearbox (looking from the front) near the rear of the engine. Leaks a lot more with a heavy driving attitude, leaks slowly if driving sensible. Leaks when stationary, if driving sensibly and...

New Defender ( I know its off topic)

Its awful, full stop. The whole point of the defender was to be a utility offroad vehicle, this looks like a womans sports car. I would love to see this used by the army :D
