    Discovery 3 or rangie

Took a D3 out for a Land Rover Experience day, what a car, like a motorised playstation! Brilliant at everything we tried. However, when they explained about the uber complex cross valve technology for the suspension and apologised that the electric handbrake didn't work because it doesn't...

    Thule Roof Bars confusion

I've a set of pukka Thule bars that sit on gutter mounts for the disco, much prefer using them if a biggish load going on top, ideal for a 5' box, no problem at all when I've had four bikes up there. Bought mine off the 'bay, sure they must be on the Thule web site though.

advice needed with bluetooth parrot & disco2

When I installed my parrot, I had the same amplified sound from the speakers, it was got around by taking the speaker output from the parrot box to the output front speaker leads from the amp. Works fine now but the Autoleads option sounds much easier:doh:

    light force 170 and A-bar

Lightforce have become the tool of choice for many of my chums in the rally fraternity where HID is not allowed, they are expensive and huge but do the job. I use the Hella 2000, look just right on a Disco but now need to be bought 2nd hand, often available on EB for around the £50 per pair so...

    Which Discovery?

There are so many out there to choose from, I'd stick with your preferences and wait for the right one. I did this for both of mine, wanted a strong colour, leather, auto etc and I didn't have to wait very long. Also found a major price advantage by being able to travel as prices are softer in...

New Discovery 2 TD5 head unit

Where else but the 'bay! It's branded Connects2 and I found it by searching for 'Discovery iPod'. The unit is about the size of a household box of matches and it tucks in behind the existing head unit with a bit of fiddling. It plugs in to the existing CD input on the back of the head, you can...

    Rear door speakers

Well done Discool, that brings it all flooding back. I recall the power and switching for the amp is all handled by the standard ISO leads. Assuming the new head unit has a subwoofer out, you just need one of these connectors from Maplins for the speaker cable to make it all happen. It worked...

    Rear door speakers

Assuming its a Disco 1, the amp sits between the rear door speakers and easy to get to once the cover is off. Is it the original head unit? If not, more likely that the 'woofer' wires have not been reconnected there when unit changed. Not sure if it's the same on the SII, not had a look at mine.

New Discovery 2 TD5 head unit

It may look like a double DIN but it's not! The unit just has a large faceplate, when you remove it, all will be revealed. I've got an Alpine with direct iPod link in my Disco 1 which has a single CD. Have fitted a Connect 2 iPod link in the Disco 2 replacing the CD and then a parrot for the...

    Disco 1 Headlamps ???

I do a lot of historic rallying and have tried a few lights in my time. If budget allows, keep to brands like Hella, Cibie, PIAA or Lightforce. The lenses are way better and you'll be fine with 55w bulbs. Also, don't be tempted by long range lenses, go for drive pattern, much more use in normal...

    fitting bluetooth hands free

..........or if you are using a separate speaker and want to hide it, fit it behind the kneeflap under the steering column, I've seen that work really well.

    fitting bluetooth hands free

I fitted a parrott to mine but guess the wiring is all pretty similar. Most modern kit is plug and play. If you use the supplied links and just plug in, the speaker signal from the 'phone is pushed through the amp and is way too loud. The head unit is muted but the amp stays on. I broke into...

    Disco 1 Brake Lights

Thanks to old posts on the forum, another problem solved! Just in case it helps anybody now......Complete brake light failure but all supplies checked out fine so deduced it was the switch. Dropped knee panel below steering wheel and found 4 wire plug on pedal. Supply in was fine but no output...

    Roofracks and Snowboards

Thule 'clamp on' fitting (#775?) with square bars will fit fine on the existing rails and will easily take the weight you have in mind. I've also got one of their gutter mount kits and load four bikes up there from time to time, try and ignore the fuel use when those are up there though!

the difference between XS and ES?

My ES V8(Premium, whatever that means) has electric seats both for heating and adjustment, multi changer CD, electric mirrors, heated front screen, front foglights, running boards, lots of wood type trim and an auto dipping mirror. Colour is Westminster Green, not seen any others around here in...

    TD5 Fuel Gauge

Aha, an old car style fix, will give it a go. Thanks Nige.

    TD5 Fuel Gauge

The gauge on my TD5 over reads to such an extent that when the light comes on, you run out of diesel within about a mile. Now I can easily deal with that by not letting it run low but is this likely to need a new pump/sender unit to get it to read accurately? That looks like a £200 part but as...

Rear Electric Windows - lesson learned!

My V8 had the non functioning window issue so I followed all the advice over the ECU tucked away behind the glovebox having already checked the easy stuff like fuses. Still no good so I pulled off the switch covers and extracted them from the console and realised I'd not checked the kiddie...

    LPG V8 milage

My V8 auto on petrol seems to hover aound the 16/17mpg on mixed use, maybe stretching to 20mpg on a motorway cruise. Suspect LPG will be maybe 90/95% of that in the same conditions and my local LPG garage reckoned that an 80 litre set up was maybe a 200 mile range. I've also got a TD5 auto...
